If you clicked this story, you might also be struggling to find new ways to read more efficiently. Yes, there are hundreds of articles for this, but this will be unique amongst all of them. I'd like to assure you about this, so read further.
Before going any further, I like to point out that this is a more advanced version of the story I posted earlier — How to Digest Books Completely and Increase your Intelligence.
Now let’s start.
I know some of you are going to kick me out. But it is true, There are tons of benefits attached to reading books, but my favorite is a good book is that can change our future and make it in our way.
Yes, I am a little bit selfish here, but I read the only books that help me.
And you have to find a good book that helps you.
1. Select Book That Will Helps You Instantly.
It is one of the best ways to digest the book completely. Well, I don’t know many of you, but I used to pick a book and read it. I hadn’t thought whether or not it would be of help to me or not. I just read it and proceeded to the next one.
Do you also do this? Yes, many of you perform the same mistake.
But wait for a second, think about it. Suppose you are a builder and want to grow that career.
Which book do you prefer to read? Obviously about Real Estate and similar to that.
I'll give you my perception of it.
My friend suggested a book to me called Launch. He told me that it was mind-blowing and that I should read it. I shifted my work towards another day and started to read that book.
It took 4 hours, and I liked it. Genuinely, the book was better than I ever thought. It is ideal for Email Marketing. But for me, it is of no use at present. I was not doing Email Marketing. And, in the future, if I want to do it? Again I have to read it since I can’t learn all the strategies within a day and apply them after months.
Similarly, I read a book about Cybersecurity and forgot many of the lessons within months.
For me, it was a mistake of mine not to focus and spread what I had learned all over.
So we have to select the book wisely.
2. Implement in Your Life.
One way to improve your life is to choose a book that you can apply immediately. I mentioned earlier that I usually pick a book and complete it without needing it at the present.
More precisely, we have to read books that help us to implement our daily work more efficiently.
What makes us unique? Practice, practice, and practice.
So how can we implement it here?
Suppose I have a business, so I'll read books from business experts to grow my business. I will read books like Rich Dad Poor Dad, to implement it in my real life.
So now you select a book and read books to implement what you have learned.
But how are you going to learn more? Read further.
3. Take Notes or Write Summary.
If you purchased a book or downloaded it online, highlight the salient points using various tools.
If you are using a Laptop or PC like me, open it with Microsoft Edge, and you can highlight every crucial point.
Try to remember the crucial points. Create sketches, draw to classify different points.
Connect points to remember it.
Finally, if you finish a book, try to write a summary in your language. You can take notes from answering these questions:
1. What does the writer want to say?
2. Why has the writer written this book?
3. How did the writer got succeed?
4. What are the plans or points of the writer?
5. How are you going to implement it in your business or your life?
What if you can’t understand it?
4. Read It Twice or, If Possible, Thrice.
Writers are experts on writing and maybe much more complicated than us. No doubt, they have more thinking capability.
So there are some phrases, chapters, or even paragraphs that we are not clear about after reading.
Additionally, reading great books takes time to grasp, and it is ok to read them twice. I had found it difficult to read The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, As A Man Thinketh.
So I read it twice.
If a book is worth more, then it is good enough to read again. It will help you to have a clear idea of the concept, and you will catch some stuff that you forgot.
5. Imagine.
You know what we do all day — We imagine everything in our mind.
We have a fantasy to imagine every idea.
Sometimes when we hear about money. We imagine it a paper with a photo and numbers on it.
Is it right? Yes.
Suppose we went to a PVR Cinema to watch The Avengers. After that, we imagine it in our dreams as well.
So if you want something extra to digest a book then use your imagination.
It is a cool way to digest a book. Read a book and create a story in your mind, finally imagine it.
Imagination not only helps us to remember, but it also makes us creative.
Let us wrap up.
So that’s all I wanted to say. Remember
1. Select a book that will help you instantly.
2. Implement what you have learned in your life.
3. Take notes or write a summary.
4. Read it twice or, if possible, thrice.
5. Use your imagination.
