Vocal: My Journey

What are my 2024 goals?

As it says above, I joined Vocal in 2022.

In the beginning, I wanted to try this platform out as another means of passive income. I was already on Medium, and I innocently, naively, thought, hey I could just repurpose my articles here?

Not the smartest move.

When I realised that isn't how Vocal is built, I went a bit quiet. I told myself Vocal was a lot of work. It wasn't anything like Medium and I felt a bit lost and also it felt like too much chaos to handle two writing communities at the same time.

But there's a twist.

For some reason that I cannot remember right now (high chance I was just bored), I came back sometime in 2023. I had started writing poems on my physical notebook, so I started sharing them and I saw how lovely the community was.

I haven't since written much but wow have I engaged. I find it SO FUN to read all your stories, especially the poems, and share my thoughts. I never thought for a minute I would actually enjoy this - it always felt like work in the beginning.

But look at me now.

I've read so many of your poetry pieces that Vocal has, kindly, rewarded me for it. A few times I've been selected as most supportive commenters. This week, I was also pleasently surprised to be the most subscribed to content creator on this platform.

Vocal has clearly been a surprise for me.

I honestly don't know how long this "high" will last. I feel like now, with some downtime with work (the first quarter of the year is rather quiet for me), I have time to read, and maybe even write like I am now. Commenting, sharing, liking, all this is fun right now.

And the bonuses I receive for it - wow, I would be lying through my teeth if I told you I didn't want them or enjoy getting them. Thanks, Vocal, seriously.

But how long will this last?

There have been weeks when I just go missing from Vocal. Life gets in the way, I have no time to read yet alone engage or write. But then there are weeks that are just amazing.

Maybe that's how it'll be. Maybe I'll be Vocal-crazy for a while and maybe for another time I will be focused on life. But I must say a word of thanks to the fun community of people here. I see your encouraging words to myself and others and I always feel welcomed.

The vibe here is, well, vibing with me.

I feel good on Vocal. So good, especially thanks for my achievements.

Here are some of my achievements on Vocal so far:

  • Top Story - September 2022 - https://shopping-feedback.today/poets/nothing-to-say%3C/li%3E%3Cli class="css-2hn7oe-Li e12bsgp32">8/30/2023 - Most Supportive Commenters this Week - 2nd Place
  • 10/25/2023 - Most Supportive Commenters this Week - 2nd Place
  • 12/27/2023 - Most Supportive Commenters this Week - 1st Place

What's next for me on Vocal?

I still write more on Medium, mostly because, and I won't lie, the interface just suits this word nerd better.

But Vocal has been great to inspire me. Reading your articles, especially the poems, make me feel connected to someone. It also motivates me to write more poems. I don't necessarily participate in challenges as I find them pressurising, but through reading and engaging, if I can find motivation, hope, connectivity and a few bonuses here and there, I think I'm good.

Vocal in 2024 will be just as chilled as it was in 2023.

What's your goal on Vocal Media for 2024? Do share!

Here's to a better 2024 on Vocal and any other writing platform you may be on!

I go missing from Vocal too for periods of time. I'll admit chasing the high of the one poem that was a runner up

Thanks for commenting on my poem yesterday! I'm glad to come to your profile and read your works- this is really insightful as someone fairly new to Vocal and Medium. I'll be sure to follow you on Medium as well. I'm glad you're finding joy in reading works on Vocal!

I've done the opposite I started on Vocal and just this year I'm also writing on Medium. Each has their good points. I feel Medium is more for article writing than any thing else, whereas on Vocal we can explore more diverse writing genres. Best of luck for 2024, may it be awesome.

  • We're so glad to have you here, Manisha. May 2024 be epic (in a good way) for you.

  • I have two questions for you, I hope you don't mind me asking them: 1. Why couldn't you repurpose your Medium articles here? Why wasn't it the smartest move? 2. In what ways Vocal is a lot of work compared to Medium? Sorry for my questions, I don't know much about Medium so I'm curious. I do have an free account but I've never published anything there. Congratulations on your Top Story and for placements on the Leaderboard! I loveeeeee reading everyone's poems and stories too so I totally understand how you feel! I wish you all the best for 2024 and all the years to come!

  • I'm coming from Medium too. I love it there. Hopefully, I will love it here as well! I'm really excited to get into doing challenges. Submitted my first poem, and excited to do more!

Thanks for posting this. I think you will find MANY feel like you do. Vocal is one of many writing platforms; it is nice there are so many “communities” in Vocal in which we can post. ❤️

Well done on getting to grips with Medium. I never got the hang of it. My goal is just to show up consistently with a pen 😁

Well stated. Vocal is still a powerful motivational source for me. This community rocks.
