Two Easy Ways to Get Followers and Make Money on Medium

Money

By Time is money Published 4 years ago 4 min read

I’ve been on Medium for over a 12 months and a half, and I’m doing “okay.” I have over three thousand followers, and I’m in that supposedly glorious seven percentage who make over one hundred bucks a month. However, it’s taken blood, persistence, and over a 12 months to get the place I am.

Honestly, considering my time here, I ought to have many more followers and make much, much, greater cash than I do.

As a result, I often discover myself green with envy when I see writers who’ve built up to twice the followers I have in two months.

I know how they do it, and I’ll tell you.

And then I’ll inform you why I won’t do these things.

Follow everyone, highlight, and remark

Medium allows greater than one hundred follows a day. And some writers follow simply this quantity of people in twenty-four hours.

The fact is that this benefits you because appropriate it appears social media etiquette is “Follow me, and I’ll follow you back.”

Now how precisely does this help?

More followers mean your work is in the front of greater people’s eyes. And even even though the majority of followers will pass by your articles, the truth is you’re upping the possibilities that any person who follows you will read.

Why I won’t do it

I won’t do the “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” deal. It’s disingenuous, and in many cases, it’s a lie in the structure of a promise.

By following you, there’s an implied promise that these readers like your writing. Don’t get me wrong. Some do honestly like your writing, however how do you know if your target audience is authentic when you play these tit-for-tat games?

You don’t.

And I choose to recognize who my real audience is because those who are truly followers of my work are who I study. It’s their needs, interests, and wishes I try to center of attention on to make them happy.

Now, talking of successful articles…

Write about money, side hustles, writing, or making cash on Medium

This is the actual reason I am having my little temper tantrum these days and writing this article.

I recognize nothing about science or “side-hustling.” My side-hustles are grading papers and spending time with my family. Writing is some thing I do at 4:30 am because it’s the only actual time I’m free.

And it would be easy as pie to write extra articles on writing. I’m a writing teacher.

I can teach you each approach there is. I even put collectively a compilation of these articles if you’re interested. (Yes, it’s a shameless plug, however it’s getting near Christmas time, and this trainer is struggling financially.)

However, what’s more important to many writer-readers is now not enhancing their craft however improving their Medium earnings.

So write about Medium and money or Medium and followers or Medium and reads. You’ll have money for this Christmas and next year’s Christmas with money left over.

Why I won’t do it

Let’s get the handy stuff out of the way. I won’t write an article about science due to the fact I’m completely ignorant about Java and Python and something else seems important to those in the programming world.

Now, why would I now not write extra about writing?

I won’t due to the fact the idea of writing these articles proper now is like forcing myself to drink emotional poison.

I’m now not going to provide you rehashed information. I’d feel embarrassed if I did.

Maybe I’ll be stimulated to write about the craft of writing again. I sure as hell hope so. As I’ve cited before, writing about writing is a moneymaker. And if I have some thing treasured to assist you grow in the artwork of writing, I’ll sense wonderful about giving this records to you.

At the moment, though, my properly is dry.

Now here’s why I won’t write about Medium earnings.

Part of the cause is I want to see if I have any authentic writing talent. And possibly I don’t. I’ve grown a first rate following, however it’s been sluggish as hell.

I’ve been here a 12 months and a half, and due to the fact my audience has stepped forward at a snail’s pace, I don’t have whatever to tell you about gaining 3,000 followers in one month.

As a depend of fact, my sluggish progress often leaves me doubting my capability as a writer, however I’m a scrappy gal, so I maintain pushing.

Reason wide variety two why I won’t write articles on how a good deal I make on Medium?

I’m mad and jealous as hell that these writers have managed to reap the success I’ve not. Oh, yes, and just their titles and figures make me doubt my writing ability.

And I don’t favor to make some poor author feel that way.

However, each single day I have to fight the demon that urges me to write about Medium. It’s a feeling like an alcoholic receives when any individual is conserving a bottle of vodka two inches from him.

So, if you want the Medium shot, take hold of the bottle and drink like you’re at a college beer bong contest.

I just can’t make myself do it. (Hint: I give in sometimes, but hey, nobody’s perfect).

The bottom line:

I recognize that some would see me as a fool by not taking gain of these golden opportunities to make extra money.

Perhaps I am.

But doing these two “cash cows” is not something I can stomach.

I desire you to like me and read me due to the fact you think I have some thing precious to say. I want you to read me due to the fact I provide you some thing to enhance your relationships. Something to make you happier. Or some thing to definitely make you think.

So, I know what road I want to take to make more money, however I’m deciding on to take the avenue less traveled as Robert Frost said recommend.

He says taking it “has made all the difference.” And possibly one day, it will for me.
