5 Things Your Local Coffee Shop Barista Wants You To Know
It's no secret that in the United States, we love our coffee. We love our coffee a lot, in fact; so much so that in 2017, about half of the population (about 150 million Americans) drank espresso, lattes, cappuccino, or iced/cold coffee. There are currently 24,000 coffee shops across the country, and even more baristas at those shops to get you a morning cup of joe or craft you a latte. Sure, they greet you with a smile and a hot coffee, but do we really know what our baristas are thinking? Here are five things your local coffee shop barista wants you to know:

The Writer's Toolbox
A writer's toolbox is as individual as the writer it belongs to. I know. I have three of them and what is in the one I leave the house with depends on what my day holds. As writers, bloggers, authors, novelists... we are able to take our craft with us wherever we go. And with technology consistently providing us with new ways of keeping in touch with the world, our writing takes on a life of its own.

Tech Week in the Theatre Realm
So I think we can all quickly name off famous actors from theatre. Hugh Jackman, Ben Platt, Josh Groban, and the list goes on and on and on. What about the tech crew, though? Can you name some people who have been involved with successful shows like Hamilton that worked as a stage manager? Or how about a lighting designer from the show Lion King on Broadway? It becomes a bit more difficult. These magnificent people that work behind the scenes are the true heroes of the theatre realm. And around a week or two before each show starts, lighting designers, stage producers, assistant stage producers, audio designers and choreographers of all shapes an sizes (and believe it or not, occasionally individuals take on two or more of these roles for a show on the local theatre level, HUGE shout out to them!) give up sleep, food, and sometimes healthy hygiene habits to make sure a show is ready by the time it is supposed to open. I'd like to dedicate this post to my beloved tech crews I've worked with and any one out there that has a tech person that they love and cherish. Let's talk about tech week in a show: specifically my experiences with set, sound and lighting.

The Nanny Life
My day starts off like any others who work at 7:30 AM. I wake up and hope to have a good day and hope the two boys I take care of are going to behave and be happy. One boy is 3-years-old, the other is 7 months. They are my favorite. As I reach their house and walk in the door, most of the time they are both awake. They are so happy to see me. There are sometimes when only one is awake, usually the 7-month-old, but sometimes I get lucky and both of them are asleep. When they both sleep, I get an opportunity to clean and help organize the house, since both parents work and don't have time to clean all the time.

Sharpening Your Sales Strategy The Easy Way. Top Story - December 2017.
Before you can expect the sales to start pouring in, you need a sales strategy. Even if you’re generating revenue without a strategy, it may not be long-lived. For example, if you land national or international coverage and the result is a windfall of revenue. How can you re-create that success? How do you reach the same target audience over and over?

Writing Your First Book
It is done. The decision has been made. You're going to write a book and there's no doubt it's going to be great. And so you saunter downstairs to the family computer a little bit later, after everyone else has gone to bed, notebook tucked under your arm, questions zipping about to and fro in your head.

The Struggles of the Modern Writer. Top Story - November 2017.
When I was younger, ideas of being a middle-school author floating about in my head between worries about my terrible grades and just how I was to build a fort in a backyard so small and close to other houses, I thought about how lucky I was.

My 6 Fave Productivity Tools
Working from home can be an adventure. For a lot of people it's the kids, for me it's the parents -- whatever I'm able to get done has to happen when I'm the only one at home, or when I can manage to hide away in my room. For those moments when I'm working from the library or something, though (because nothing can compete with the television volume in this household) there are a handful of apps and sites that help keep me focused on the task at hand.

5 Quirks of a Bilingual Work Environment
When I started working as a temporary visa clerk at a French consulate, I thought I had a general idea of what working a job that would require me to speak French on a daily basis would be like. It couldn't be THAT different from my studies, right? Wrong! My semester abroad in southern France may have given me an idea of what it's like to live and go to school in France and having it on my resumé certainly helped me get this job, but working as an American in an office that operates primarily in French was not an experience I could easily imagine until I was in it.

Work Flow
Everyday I get up at the same time. I drink the same sort of coffee. I get in the same car. And I drive the same route. It all leads up to the same place I work. Don't get me wrong. I love the people I work with. Well, most of the people. I try and make everyday seem better then the last. It's never enough. I find myself day dreaming of a time where I was contributing something more to society. A time where I woke up extra early, and skipped breakfast just so I could get to work and create something new to teach. Oh yeah I'm a teacher by the way. Well teacher adjacent. I sound like I'm bitching. And maybe that's exactly what I'm doing. But so what?! Who doesn't bitch? Out of the billions of people in this world, black, white, American, European, we all bitch about our jobs. Even if we love the job.
