The Struggles of the Modern Writer. Top Story - November 2017.
When I was younger, ideas of being a middle-school author floating about in my head between worries about my terrible grades and just how I was to build a fort in a backyard so small and close to other houses, I thought about how lucky I was.

My 6 Fave Productivity Tools
Working from home can be an adventure. For a lot of people it's the kids, for me it's the parents -- whatever I'm able to get done has to happen when I'm the only one at home, or when I can manage to hide away in my room. For those moments when I'm working from the library or something, though (because nothing can compete with the television volume in this household) there are a handful of apps and sites that help keep me focused on the task at hand.

5 Quirks of a Bilingual Work Environment
When I started working as a temporary visa clerk at a French consulate, I thought I had a general idea of what working a job that would require me to speak French on a daily basis would be like. It couldn't be THAT different from my studies, right? Wrong! My semester abroad in southern France may have given me an idea of what it's like to live and go to school in France and having it on my resumé certainly helped me get this job, but working as an American in an office that operates primarily in French was not an experience I could easily imagine until I was in it.

Top Five Reasons Why People Hate Working in Retail
Working in retail is like the forbidden forest to some. "I'll never work in retail" has come out of my mouth quite a few times in my life. Alas, here I am, working at Target, and writing this article about why it sucks.

Work Flow
Everyday I get up at the same time. I drink the same sort of coffee. I get in the same car. And I drive the same route. It all leads up to the same place I work. Don't get me wrong. I love the people I work with. Well, most of the people. I try and make everyday seem better then the last. It's never enough. I find myself day dreaming of a time where I was contributing something more to society. A time where I woke up extra early, and skipped breakfast just so I could get to work and create something new to teach. Oh yeah I'm a teacher by the way. Well teacher adjacent. I sound like I'm bitching. And maybe that's exactly what I'm doing. But so what?! Who doesn't bitch? Out of the billions of people in this world, black, white, American, European, we all bitch about our jobs. Even if we love the job.

Dreaming of the Workday
You wake up, wipe the drool from your cheek, grimace at the state of your breath after catching a whiff before turning over ready to go back to sleep. You're content in the full day's work you've just completed. Just in case, you check your phone and see that it's 7 AM. You slowly realise that your sub-conscious hates you. Rather than the literally endless dream-scapes your psyche can provide for you, your idiot brain chose to play out the work day ahead. The day you're about to go and experience all over again, but this time, for realsies.

Team-Building Activities for Modern Australian Companies
A work-performance study on Australian workers has shown that there are many factors affecting employee engagement, including working conditions, annual wage, and job security. However, there is one more important factor to consider and that is how the employees function as a part of a team. You see, even when the individuals have immense potential and talent, if they are not able to join their strengths with the common goal of making a business more successful, their projects are bound to fail. It is up to the managers to prevent that from happening by building well-connected and well-functioning teams. Fortunately, there are some great team-building activities that can help you with that.

Why Publish Publicly?
I’ve done a few bits of casual blogging here and there in the past and have been wondering if it is something I should get back into, at least for the next few months as I’m going through a period of change in my life and feels as though it might be a nice accompaniment to help me achieve my goal for the year. It’s one you will have certainly heard before — it might even be one of your own resolutions for the year; to be more creative.

How To Build a Relationship with Remote Employees
Employer-worker relationship plays an important role in the growth of the company. Just as companies invest a huge sum in maintaining relationships with their clients, they should adopt a similar approach in maintaining healthy relationships with their employees. Given the benefits that remote employment offers, companies are proactively willing to explore that option as it has surged from being 9% in 1995 to 37% of the total work-force in 2016. As the number is constantly rising, it is believed that the concept of being physically present at the workplace will extinct as remote working has accrued mutual benefits to the employer as well as the employee. However, that doesn't mean that will be the end of all the problems. On the contrary, it will subsequently create new ones. Remote working can cause disengagement in the employer-worker and would erode the camaraderie amongst co-workers. A disengaged relation can lead to problems that can nullify the benefits of remote working. So companies must take into account all the factors at play and make decisions that nurture strong and healthy relations with the employees.

Build an Australian Dream Team with These Team Building Ideas
You can be the smartest, most talented, and most passionate educated entrepreneur, but none of it matters unless you have a well-trained team willing to move forward toward a common vision and the realization of the company’s goals. The number of new businesses in Australia has declined and the number of business failures has risen since 2015, and while there are many reasons behind that, a good team would do everything in its power to avoid being a part of those numbers. So, without further ado, here are a few team building exercises that will transform your workers into a dream team ready to have your (and each other’s) back whenever necessary.
