Salahuddin Ayubi, also known as Saladin, was a prominent Muslim military leader and the first sultan of Egypt and Syria. Born in Tikrit, Iraq in 1137, Saladin was a member of the Kurdish Ayyubid dynasty, which had come to power in the region of Mesopotamia in the 12th century. He rose to fame in the late 12th century when he became the commander of the Muslim forces against the Crusaders in the Holy Land. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest military leaders in history, and his life and achievements continue to inspire people around the world.
