Struggles of a Writer

Being a writer is never easy

I’m going to be honest, even though I’m a writer, I still struggle to get my writing done. If I had to describe how I feel about my writing, it would be a love/hate relationship. I love it because I’m able to fully describe my emotions on certain things, and clear my mind for the sake of my sanity. I hate it because every time I sit down to write something down, my body throws a tantrum and does everything in its power to distract me from getting any kind of writing down.

Normally, the correct way to plan an article is to outline it, and from there, write it out from there. Correct everything once you are done with writing the article. Sadly I do not do any of this. In my case, it's to sit down and write it out without an outline, and hope for the best. What slows me down, even more, is that I’m constantly correcting my article before I finish it. By the time I finish making the corrections, I lose track of my thoughts and end up getting frustrated.

Other times, it’s from the perfectionist inside of me. Let me explain, I finish my article, happy with it, then I take one more look at it, and end up finding multiple errors. I end up finding so many mistakes on it, that I end up scrapping it, and rewriting it. Now imagine doing this several times to the point where you decide to not even post it. It ends up frustrating me more, and I decide to not even post it in the first place.

One thing that bothers me about writing at times is the word count. Most people can dish out 4000 words without any issue. I struggle to get 500 words down. I can understand why people make longer articles, you want to be sure that your content ranks when it comes to search engines. Me on the other hand, I have never worried about that. I’ll explain it later down the road.

So why do I keep on writing, even though it can drive me insane? I’ll give a few reasons so you can understand.

Practice makes perfect

If you have been writing for a long time, you will know that it takes practice. That is the only way to improve, is to be constantly writing. In order to improve, you need to practice every day. Showing up is one thing, doing the work is another. If you do not put the work in it, you will not improve, simple as that. That is why I write. Is it the best? No, but by showing up and doing the work, over time it will improve.

It helps pass the time

Since the whole situation with COVID-19 started, I figured I’d go ahead and pass the time by writing. While I could be wasting it away by watching movies on Netflix or Hulu, I’m getting nothing done by procrastinating. Plus it keeps my mind engaged.

Possible chance of it leading to opportunities in the future

The more you post, it is bound to grab someone’s attention. While chances of this may be slim to none, it’s still a chance. I’d love to make this a full-time job by making writing a career. Will it be difficult? Yes, it will be, but it won’t be impossible.

Writing to share my content with others

Chances are, that if I post it, someone will like my content. Will everyone like it? No, and I don’t expect everyone to like it. While some may agree with my ideas, I know others will not.

That’s all I got for now.
