“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do.”

- Brené Brown

We all love the days where everything seems to go right.

The days where the kids get out of bed and ready for school without a fuss. The days where strangers are kind to you while at work and your boss is in a really good mood. However, there are the days where nothing seems to go as planned and everything feels so negative and bleak. Those days are hard. I think loving ourselves through the tough days is very important.

It's easy to be kind to ourselves when things are going well in our lives, but it's important to be extra kind on the days where nothing seems to go right. Loving yourself on a bad day isn't about ignoring your struggles or pretending that everything is fine. It's okay to give yourself grace and forgiveness when things aren't going your way.

My partner said to me last week, "It's been a while since life gave us a break." He wasn't complaining he was just stating that things have been rough for a little while for us- and that's okay. I like to think of life as peaks and valleys. Sometimes the valley of life (the lows) are never ending and it feels impossible to climb back up to the peak (the highs). Other times, the highs are never ending and then you take a dive back off the cliff into the valley of lows. You got to get through the bad to get to the good is what I'm trying to say.

There's a bible verse I came across this last week that stuck with me. I even wrote it down and stuck it on my fridge.

“The light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness has not overcome it.”

- John 1:5

The light is always there even if it feels dim. You will get through whatever this week brings you just like you did last week, and the week before. Open yourself to the new possibilities that this week may bring and take the punches as they come. Because loving yourself through the valleys is what gives you the strength to climb back toward the peaks.

I did choose a song for this week's anthem as well that suits the theme of this week's message. I think it fits well with the bible verse that I found when I was really struggling last week.

Oh nah, this little light of mine

They 'bouta see me, about to see me shine

I'll get my money, get my money right

I put that on my life

This week, when things don’t go as planned, I want you to try this: pause, breathe, and remind yourself that valleys aren’t forever. Open yourself to the possibility that something good may be around any corner, even if you can’t see it yet. Take each day as a challenge when it comes, one step at a time and one day at a time.

And above all, please love yourself extra on the bad days. Because it’s in those valleys, that self-love becomes your greatest strength.

Thank you for reading you guys. I hope this week turns out better than last week was for me. One day at a time.
