Making money online is not as hard as it seems, the truth is, you must treat your money making journey as a business. It’s not a hobby, it’s not a fly by night thing that you start and stop, and start and stop. Take it seriously, please.

Yes, have fun, enjoy the process and learn along the way, but take it seriously.

Do you spend hours writing and publishing articles or creating videos? Then post them, and get frustrated when you get no traction at all? Well, let me say this:

Are you posting and taking the steps necessary to boost your views and engagement? Or, do you post and ghost?

What does it mean to post and ghost? Posting and ghosting is when you post and leave the platform without following certain steps.

Here are the steps I take once I’ve posted one article:

1. Leave five thoughtful comments on other articles

2. Reply to comments on my own articles

3. Share my article on many stories

4. Share my article on Pinterest

5. When I’m publishing an article, I embed one previous article into the current piece

6. Leave a call to action at the end of the article to encourage engagement or promote something such as a newsletter or digital product. That’s it.

It sounds like a lot, but it takes 30 minutes to get all this done. It’s not that difficult.

If you’re posting and ghosting, stop complaining about low traction or low earnings.

I have to admit, it’s tough on platforms such as Medium, because they’re always changing the rules, and they don’t want writers to promote digital products or any other form of self promotion, so the call to action part on medium is tough. I encourage people to leave a comment by asking a question such as:

“Have you tried this method before”

“What’s been the biggest mindset shift that you had to go through to start earning money online?”

“What you like to add to this article, anything I’ve missed ?”

Here are some other ways to promote your articles:

Create YouTube videos

Take the topic and create a YouTube video based on the article you’ve just published. Link the article in the description because some people might want to read or bookmark your article for future reference.

Facebook groups

There are many Facebook groups for specific platforms but I don’t like to focus on those.

I prefer to post my article in response to questions on relevant groups. For example, if you write an article about breastfeeding, go on groups for mothers and new mothers. Engage in conversation and then post your link where relevant.

Add your links to ebooks

If you create digital products such as ebooks or courses, add your article links where relevant.

Teach on platforms such as Outschool or skillshare

Use your articles as teaching materials. Earn extra cash by teaching on platforms such as outschool or skillshare. To gain more views and engagement, add your articles as teaching materials.

Add your articles to your portfolio

Don’t let your articles gather digital dust. Instead, add your articles to your writer portfolio, so when potential clients open your portfolio, they’ll read your articles and that’s money in the bank for you.

Create content about public figures and well known brands

This one is a no brainer. One time, I wrote an article about Flipboard, which is a media sharing platform.

Flipboard tweeted my article and I gained a ton of views and new followers from that one tweet. So, imagine writing one article a day about well known artists, public figures, and brands. Then, tweet the article and tag the brand or artist, you’ll probably get a retweet, and again, that’s money in the bank for you.

Write about small businesses in your local area

This one is a fun and you’ll gain a reputation as a local journalist. So what you’re going to do is ask local businesses to feature them in your articles about the local area. Once you’ve done that, these companies might tweet your article and tell other companies that you’re the go to person to write articles about local businesses.

The goal is to get more eyes on your content. It’s that simple, and these are some fun and effective ways to do that. You can also try Reddit and Quora if you wish, however, you must be strategic here because you don’t want to get banned.

So, while the dream of earning online might seem distant, remember this: treat your online endeavors with the seriousness of a true business. Forget the fleeting nature of a hobby and commit to consistent effort. Stop posting and ghosting into the void and instead, actively engage and promote your work. By implementing these simple yet effective strategies, you can transform your passion into profit and finally see the traction you deserve. It's not magic; it's simply about treating your online journey like the real business it is.

I'm currently doing a 100 article challenge, this is article 33 in the challenge. It's day 22. Let's finish strong!

Well said! Completely agree that it's important to treat making money online / writing online as a business. We have to put in the effort to get our writing out there. I especially like the idea of leaving 5 positive comments on other stories. Not only does it help you, but other writers as well.
