I worked on five different projects, and only one of them out!
Honestly, a lot more than five..
Honestly, a lot more than five..
Don’t rush reading. First, read this carefully.
If I told you that a single tweet could make you $40, would you believe me? Yeah, I wouldn’t have either - until I actually did it. I turned this into a real side hustle that gave me financial freedom in less than a month.
You can do it too. Want in? Here’s where you start (plus more job options).
Let’s read further..
In 2020 I got into online money making and also started a side project.
At the present I was working towards my bachelor’s degree and of my neighbors is a web designer.
I found out that I could make money online, I tried out many side projects.
From apps subscriptions to making funny YouTube videos it was a learning experience for me and today.
I am to present to you five of my side projects and which of them were worth it.
1) Online Marketplaces
I started out by selling on online marketplaces.
I had no audience, and I was looking to get into a related platform.
So I got into all the online markets that I could.
- Amazon KDP
- Udemy
- Draft2Digital (eBook Platform Guide)
- Forums like Digital Point
As I grew in knowledge I added to this list which includes.
- Creative Fabrica
- Teachers Pay Teachers
- and Creative Market.
My aim with these platforms was to get exposure for what I have to sell.
I profited from them, for instance I had 1,999 students on Udemy (which included free and paid).
Then there were the downsides.
Many at any time could have let me go and that’s what did happen.
Shortly after Udemy and Amazon KDP went out of business, I also saw my payment option drop from Teachers Pay Teachers.
So it was that which was not a safe side business at all.
2) Freelancing
Surely my second largest side business in terms of income was freelancing.
I still recall my first transaction on Fiverr; I was at the moon.
Then out of the blue I came up with ideas which were so great that I was making $400 per client.
Who wastes all that extra work?
It drained my time and flexibility.
I put in for very long hours on client projects and we didn’t have that which came right away.
I had to wait for my clients’ reviews.
When I didn’t get them my blog fell apart.
3) Blogging
Blogging is what came out of my choice to not use online marketplaces which I also didn’t want to focus solely on. I was after passive income and the blog as a platform for my digital products and affiliate marketing looked perfect, but it didn’t pan out.
I soon found out that blogging is not easy.
I had to get my site up and running and also optimize it for search engines.
I wrote every post from scratch.
Then I got it to improve in terms of results. It was a very large scale issue. For almost two years I was at it.
I was at 2,200 views a month and breaking even.
The next step made sense.
I was done with my blog.
4) YouTube
At the same time YouTube was my constant.
I put out very simple to follow videos which I was hoping would go viral and generate income.
But as I said before nothing worked.
At about the same time my channel was growing which although little by little was still growth.
Up to the point that I started putting out my own video content related to my niche and sharing my digital products.
And tell you what, people were buying.
I did not see success in the affiliate program, but also at present I do not. What I did get out of it was exposure for my digital products which sold beyond the market place.
This issue of the side business is a topic of thought for me in the future.
5) Writing on Medium
Sure, I had a great time on that side project, you were right.
At first, what I did was try out Medium’s platform. But I didn’t stick with it.
Since I closed my blog I still do.
But I didn\'t go for the monthly fee option of the site.
So I tried Medium again.
At that time I was still running my YouTube channel which is why Medium was a side project for me.
My first post didn't go viral.
Neither did my second.
But somehow, it did.
My initial post went viral, also I must report that in my first month of being on the platform I gained over a thousand followers.
At present they are all on my second page.
For earnings which I did by that of publishing my articles for free to readers.
Instead of that I put out what I valued and grew from it via digital products, affiliate marketing, and also phone consultations.
Through digital products I’ve sold over $7,000 worth on Gumroad.
For instance I put forth effort in an affiliate marketing program which resulted in me earning $2,317.03.
In four phone sessions I made $600.
This does not include my second digital store out nor my other products.
Affiliate Marketing.
I did piece together stories.
As my readers will enjoy,
it was definitely worth it.
Summary:
Not all side hustles are for everyone.
Operating a platform on the internet may be the most profitable side business for some.
Freelance may be the perfect fit for some.
I am fine with putting in work for those five side hustle ideas now and then.
The most vital lesson is to persevere.
Go ahead and try out that idea right away.
- If it is not going to work, there is at least a story in it.
- If it works why wait? You have what you need to make money online.
Well, it's a win-win situation.
If you are like me in that you hate the uncertainty which the job market brings, the lack of flexibility in a freelance role, or any of the many issues which come with running your own blog, then you may want to try Medium as I did.
