I created man, and I know what his heart conceives within him; and I am near to his vein.

আমি মানুষকে সৃষ্টি করেছি, এবং আমি জানি যা তার মন তার ভিতরে কল্পনা করে; এবং আমি তার শিরা হতে নিকটবর্তী।

"We created man, and I know what his mind conceives within him; and I am near to his jugular vein."

— (Surah Qaf, verse 16)

This verse provides an insight that reaches to the pulse of the human soul, the waves of thought and the secrets of the mind. Here Allah presents Himself not only as a creator, but as a supreme being, who is present to our consciousness, feelings, fears, loves, greed and sorrows—everything.

The more experience a person gains in the world, the more he discovers, the more intense the question of his soul becomes—who am I? Who understands me? Who knows what is in my heart, which I cannot explain even to myself? This verse is a perfect answer to that question. Allah says—whatever you think, imagine, dream, cherish in secret—I know it, even when you yourself do not clearly realize it.

“Near to My jugular vein”—this sentence is not just a poetic expression, it is a real spiritual truth. The most important element of the human body is the circulation of blood, for which the veins play an important role. And Allah is closer than that vein. That is, He does not only see the external behavior—He feels the inner thoughts, the desires, the secret battles that people can never express in front of others.

This verse reminds people—you are not alone. When you shed tears, but no one sees them, there is still a being who knows it. When you are defeated by your silent desires, He still realizes it. When sin arises in your thoughts, but you suppress it in your heart without expressing it, He still knows how great a struggle you are going through.

This closeness is not only the closeness of knowledge, it is the closeness of mercy and responsibility. When Allah says, “I am closer than his vein,” He is not just watching—He is providing that invisible companionship that stabilizes the soul of man, gives strength, and brings him back from the wrong path.

This closeness to Allah is as comforting as it is frightening. Because no matter how much a person hides his sins, Allah sees them. When someone commits a crime in private, thinking that no one knows—Allah still knows it. When someone harbors hatred in his heart, pours honey on his mouth—Allah reads his heart. This verse calls upon a person to self-criticism. He learns to understand that nothing can be hidden by appearances. If the soul is corrupted, then no matter how sweet the language of the mouth is, it carries no value.

This verse also creates deep trust and confidence. When a person feels alone, abandoned, misunderstood and undervalued—this verse then says, there is someone who knows everything about you. He knows what purity is deep in your heart, what sacrifices you have made, what dreams you cherish. This faith frees a person from the delusion of others' praise. He understands that the sight of Allah is much more important than the sight of man. He understands that the purity of the heart is much more valuable than the external reflection.

This verse also gives a blow to self-esteem. If someone thinks that he knows himself well, that his thoughts are under his own control—the verse says, You do not know what thoughts are coming into your mind; I know them before you think them. This is like an open declaration of an omniscient being—every particle of your existence is open to Me.

This verse is the highest form of slavery. You are a servant of a master who sees not the words of your mouth, but the waves of your heart. The weakness of your heart, the firmness of your resolve, the trembling of your conscience—all fall within His knowledge. This realization calls a person to the path of self-purification. He engages in an effort to purify both the soul and the actions.

This verse is like a soft voice to the soul—"You are not alone." And at the same time, it is a thunderous warning—"Even your most secret thoughts are not hidden from Me."

If a society is built in the light of this verse, there will be no secret house of sin, there those who wear masks will be ashamed, there the purification of the soul will be the greatest pursuit. Because, then, man will no longer be busy with external honor; rather, he will want the heart to be clean before Allah.

This verse is a living example of that mysterious closeness of Allah, where He says—I know what is going on inside you, even when you yourself cannot clearly know it. Such a feeling compels a person to break down and say—“O Allah, you know how weak I am, you know all my struggles—do not leave me.”
