I was actively looking for a straightforward but legit way to make money online doing something I actually enjoyed at the beginning of 2024. That's when I discovered Vocal Media, a platform where you can get paid for your stories. I tried it because it sounded interesting. Fast forward to 2025, and I now make over $100 per month consistently from writing and publishing on Vocal.

I did it exactly this way—no hype, just real-world experience.

🖊️ Discovering Vocal Media

Writers are compensated by Vocal Media, an online publishing platform, based on the number of times their articles are read. Vocal pays you per 1,000 views, unlike Medium, where readers clap or subscribe. It seemed too easy to be true at first, but as soon as I saw my first few cents in my dashboard, I was hooked. The Vocal can be used in two ways:

1. Free account (pays about $3.80–$6 per 1,000 views)

2. Vocal+ account ($9.99/month) which pays higher — around $6–$7.50 per 1,000 views and offers access to writing challenges and bonuses.

Finding My Purpose At first

I wrote about anything and everything, and my opinions were negative. Then I took a step back and analyzed Vocal’s most-read stories. Personal experiences, digital income tips, and motivational content all performed well, according to my observations. So I concentrated on:

  • Real stories from my online work journey
  • Advice for new freelancers and writers
  • Life lessons and self-improvement

This helped me write faster, connect better with readers, and steadily grow my audience.

🧠 Writing Strategy That Worked

I devised a straightforward but consistent writing strategy:

  • Write 2 stories per week (each 600–1000 words)
  • Use powerful titles that include numbers or questions (such as “How I Made $100 from Writing Online in One Month”)
  • Select the appropriate vocal community (Motivation, Journal, Longevity, or FYI all performed well for me)
  • Add 5–7 SEO-friendly tags per article (e.g. vocal media, online income, writing tips, side hustle)

Most importantly, I stopped chasing perfection. I wrote clean, honest, readable stories and focused on consistency over style.

📣 Promoting My Stories

Vocal doesn’t have a huge built-in audience, so self-promotion is essential.

Here’s how I shared my stories:

  • Facebook groups for side hustlers and writers
  • Reddit threads like r/vocal and r/beermoney
  • Groups on Messenger and WhatsApp
  • Pinterest (great for evergreen stories like “ways to earn online”)
  • Twitter (X) using niche hashtags like #writingcommunity

Even 200–300 views per story brought in $1–$2. When 1–2 stories went semi-viral and got 1000+ views, my income jumped.

💰 How I Reached $100 Per Month

The straightforward method by which I reached $100 per month is as follows:

Source Monthly Income

Story reads (Vocal+) $65–$70

Challenge bonus $20–$30

Tips from readers $5–$10

Total $100–$110

Once I saw that regular publishing and light promotion worked, I kept going. To increase my per-view earnings, I joined Vocal+ and began participating in the company's weekly challenges, in which even non-winning stories occasionally receive bonuses of $5 to $25.

Achievement of a Challenge Bonus

When I entered a vocal writing challenge with a straightforward story about my morning routine, it was one of the biggest boosts. I didn’t win, but I got a $20 runner-up bonus and a big jump in views. I was paid more than $35 for that one story alone. Since then, I've been participating in at least one challenge each month as a routine.

📈 What's Next?

Right now, I want to:

  • Reach $200 per month by publishing three to four stories each week
  • Repurpose my content into blog posts or YouTube scripts
  • Build a small newsletter to promote my stories directly
  • Explore affiliate links and product mentions where relevant

Concluding:

Although working for Vocal Media won't make you rich, it is a fantastic side income, particularly if you enjoy writing. The best part? It's not active. Your stories can continue to generate income for months or even years after they are published.

  • If you're considering starting, here are some suggestions:
  • Pick a field you enjoy
  • Make a post at least once per week
  • Join Vocal+ if you’re serious
  • Promote your stories consistently
  • Keep learning and improving your writing

Start small, stay consistent, and your first $100 will come sooner than you think.
