How AI Is Improving Expert Industries

Just Not How It Is Being Marketed

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published about 4 hours ago 3 min read

You have been told that AI is here to help you get the answers that you need...

That it is like having experts in your pocket...

On demand...

Providing what you need, when you need it.

That is what the marketing has told us all.

On the other hand...

AI has also been marketed as a tool to help experts...

Helping them identify things faster...

Or expand their ability to help others.

But...

What is it that we are really seeing?

Are AI products really helping experts...

By replacing them?

Well, this is where things begin to become really interesting.

Has AI been replacing experts?

Not true experts.

It "has" been replacing "experts" where the entirety of their work is based on following the greatest common denominator within their industries.

This includes the McKinseys and most CEOs...

Who are mostly not true experts, but are just individuals who are following playbooks that have been outdated and filled with misinformation for decades.

But the true experts...

The ones who have real information of value and deep wisdom based on the experiences they have developed over the years...

Are actually gaining help in two ways from AI.

First...

Generalized AI, that is trained on gigantic datasets are helping in a way you would not expect...

Instead of helping people get the answer they need...

They have become such deep centers of misinformation, incapable of providing quality data...

That it is actually forcing people to go "directly" to real experts to get real answers.

Whether people are getting experts' paid newsletters...

Their books...

Or their podcasts and shows...

More people are getting pushed away from utilizing search-based modalities because these modalities have become peddlers of sludge and misinformation in the age of AI.

Why?

These large models are trained on "everything" and utilize what it finds most consistently...

Which, when trained on nearly the entirety of the known internet...

Is trash.

Often, it is work that either comes from "experts" or a generally untrained population with extreme opinions but little real knowledge.

That is both the benefit and the detriment of more people being able to put their thoughts into the world...

Assuming their ideas are even their own and are not products of mass propaganda, purposeful misinformation, or skewed data and research...

Which is truly what most people end up parroting.

Second...

Experts are getting help from AI, not through Generalized AI...

But through Small Specialized Models that are trained "only" on the expert's own work...

Or, in some cases, on a specialized set of work that they define and choose themselves.

But this is what is interesting...

What most of these experts are "not" doing...

Is attempting to create "one" AI model to completely replace them.

Instead...

They are creating "multiple" Small Specialized AI models that only replicate "specific" aspects of their work...

Usually, the aspects that are hyper-repetitive.

This gives them the ability to focus on developing their expertise even further...

And allows them to only focus on the most difficult challenges...

Which creates more data to help them improve their Small Specialized AI models.

So, what we are seeing...

Is not the end of the Expert Industry...

But rather, we are watching Large AI Models help people "see" how useless most "experts" really are...

By revealing the outdated playbooks that they have been using...

While simultaneously making general information search less reliable...

Weeding out these "experts"...

Forcing people to actually seek the "real" experts in the world...

And those experts are using "their" own Small Specialized AI models, trained on "their" own real expertise, to help more people, more quickly.

I believe that most versions of today's AI are revealing how problematic, expensive, and unreliable they are...

Especially when trained largely on the information from a profoundly sick society.

But I do not believe that AI will disappear...

We will simply see a transition in how it is being used in formats that are actually useful...

By supporting real experts.
