From Broke to Booming: My Journey with Fiverr"

My journey

By Real life 🧬 stories Published 8 months ago • 4 min read

My name is Ahmed, and I'm just an ordinary boy from a small town in Pakistan. If you'd asked me two years ago what my future looked like, I would have probably shrugged and said, “God knows.” I didn’t have any plans, no clear direction, and definitely no money. My parents were supportive but not rich. I was the eldest among three siblings, and I felt the pressure to help out, but I had no idea how.

One day, while scrolling through YouTube on my cracked Samsung phone, I came across a video titled: "How I Made $10,000 on Fiverr Without Any Skills." I almost laughed and scrolled past it. But something made me stop. Maybe it was the word “without any skills,” because that’s exactly how I felt—skill-less. I clicked the video, not knowing it would change my life.

The video explained how people were offering simple services on a freelancing platform called Fiverr—like removing backgrounds from images, writing short articles, or making PowerPoint presentations. These were things I could do. I always had a good command of English and had helped classmates with presentations and writing assignments. For the first time, I thought, Maybe I can do this too.

That same night, I created an account on Fiverr. It was free, and I set up my profile with a smiling picture, a short description, and my first gig: "I will write engaging blog posts and articles for you." I charged just $5 for up to 500 words. I knew it wasn’t much, but I had to start somewhere.

The first week was silent. No orders. No messages. I kept checking Fiverr every few hours, praying that someone would notice me. I watched more YouTube videos, improved my gig image, rewrote my description, and even added two more gigs—one for proofreading and another for PowerPoint presentations.

On the 11th day, I got a notification: “You have a new order.” My heart almost exploded. Someone wanted a 1000-word blog post on the benefits of yoga. I accepted it immediately and began writing. I researched every detail, edited carefully, and submitted it the same day. The client gave me a 5-star rating and a $5 tip. That $10 felt like a million rupees to me.

That was the beginning.

Soon, orders started trickling in. I made sure to respond to messages quickly, deliver on time, and always be polite. I never copied content—I always wrote everything myself. Slowly, I built a reputation. I reached Level 1 seller in three months and Level 2 by the end of my first year.

By then, I had earned over $7,000. I bought a new laptop, a desk for my small room, and even helped pay for my sister’s school fees. My parents couldn’t believe it. My mother would sometimes come into my room while I was working and ask, “Beta, yeh sab tu sach mein kar raha hai?” I would just smile and say, “Fiverr ne zindagi badal di, Ammi.”

In my second year, I decided to expand. I hired a friend who was good at graphic design and offered logo design and social media posts under my account. I also took an online course in SEO writing and started offering higher-priced services. Now, I was charging $50 per blog post, and clients were happy to pay because I had built trust.

I remember one month clearly—August 2024. I made $2,300 in that month alone. It was more than my father’s yearly salary. I withdrew the money to my Payoneer account, then to my bank, and surprised my parents with a trip to Murree. My younger brother had never seen mountains before. Seeing the joy on their faces was priceless.

Today, I have earned over $25,000 on Fiverr. I’ve saved enough to buy a small car. I’m also investing in an online course to learn web development, so I can offer even more services. I’m mentoring two cousins and helping them set up their own Fiverr profiles. I want them to feel the same freedom I do.

What’s most surprising to people is that I didn’t have any high-level technical skills when I started. All I had was the willingness to learn, work hard, and be honest. Fiverr gave me a platform. It didn’t matter that I was from a small town, or that I didn’t have a degree from a foreign university. What mattered was my dedication.

I still remember the old me—scrolling endlessly, feeling lost, unsure of what to do with my life. If you’re reading this and feel the same, I want to tell you something: There is hope. If I can do it, you can too. All you need is an internet connection, a little creativity, and a lot of consistency.

People often ask me, “Ahmed, what’s your secret?” I always smile and say, “It’s no secret. It’s just Fiverr.”

Now, I’m planning to launch my own website and start a YouTube channel to share my journey and tips with others in Urdu and English. I want to reach those boys and girls sitting in their rooms, feeling hopeless, the way I once felt. I want to tell them that there is a world out there that’s willing to pay you—not for your degree, not for your background—but for your effort and your talent.

So yes, this platform, Fiverr, changed my life. It didn’t just give me money; it gave me purpose, confidence, and a way to support my family. And for that, I will always be grateful
