Bangladesh Investment Summit from April 7 to April 10, 2025

As part of the highly anticipated Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, a group of foreign investors have visited Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) located in the southeastern port city in Chittagong. This visit has made an important milestone in Bangladesh’s business sector to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) that can support Bangladesh a long-term economic growth. And this highlighted also the potential of Bangladesh’s RMG sector, particularly in green manufacturing, textile innovation, and technology-based businesses.

And this visit is organized in partnership with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Youngone Corporation – the first largest investor in KEPZ and now is the number one RMG sector in Bangladesh that enrich Bangladesh’s economic power. And by this summit, the Bangladesh is able to provide a message to foreign investors about the future of Bangladesh’s investment landscape.

Over 2300 participants from fifty countries registered for the event, including high-level professional business initiators including Óscar García Maceiras - CEO of Inditex, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem - group chairman and CEO of DP World, Kyeongsu Lee - vice-president of Samsung Construction and Trading Corporation, Jon Omund Revhaug - executive vice-president and head of Telenor Asia, and Han Jun-seokt - CEO of Giordano Korea and s many other respectively. The representatives are from South Korea, Japan, China, India, Germany, and the United States. They are impressed by green environment, world-class framework, eco-friendly system and production process, and the unbounded amenities for expansion of the KEPZ zone. Many investors disclosed keen interest in establishing their business manufactory and long-term partnership with the local companies.

Foreign Investors

The land ownership problem of KEPZ will be solved, according to KEPZ officials. Over the years, several foreign investors have contacted KEPZ authorities to get plots but had to back out for land-related complications. In previous, Samsung was interested in setting up its factory here at KEPZ by investing funds to the tune of $5 billion to manufacture mobile handsets, but it could not proceed for these land issues, said Lee Yun-young, the Korean ambassador. “Samsung has no confidence in investing in the country for the land-related complications.”

Kihak Sung, chairman of Youngone, said: “My vision behind establishing KEPZ was to create an opportunity for large investments in Bangladesh, fetch $1 billion a year from exports and employ over one lakh workers.” In response to a query on attracting foreign investors at KEPZ, he said, “I am in contacting investors from Japan, Korea and many other countries. If the problems are resolved, then they will invest here.”

Kihak Sung, chairman of Youngone Corporation and a pioneer in Bangladesh's readymade garments (RMG) and textile sectors, was awarded honorary citizenship of Bangladesh yesterday for his outstanding contributions to the industry and the country's economy.

Youngone has established a 40-MW solar rooftop power plant in the KEPZ, which is the biggest in Bangladesh. The cheif of Youngone, Kihak Sung, plans to build an international standard medical complex, which will include a general and specialised hospital, medical college, nursing college, and health technology institutes, to provide the best healthcare services to workers and their families. He also aims to establish a technical institute and general education facilities to improve the skills of employees.

This visit propounds Bangladesh as an outstanding hub for foreign investment and large production. It also reflects the confidence global investors have in zones like KEPZ, which combine industrial excellence with environmental responsibility. Bangladesh should not miss this chance as it has tax-free entrance; it should use this opportunity. The Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 was a clear signal that the country wants to compete on the global stage.
