ACOTAR SERIE

SERIE REVIEW

By May sanz Published 3 years ago 4 min read

Today I finished the A court of thorns and roses Book series, and let me tell you, it was quite a journey!!

I bragged about being a fantasy lover. I need books as much as water (even more); I crave books, and my favorite genre is fantasy. I haven't heard about ACOMAF before January 2022 (I know some of you may argue that I am a fantasy disgrace, please don't judge me). I made it my personal goal to complete the whole series in 2022.

HOW DID I LEARN ABOUT ACOTAR?

I came across ACOMAF through my sister-in-law. She recently read it and talked to me about it; she was so hooked on the story that she went to Amazon and bought me a copy of it. She wasn't pleased with her version of the book (the cover) cause she wanted the one with Feyra on the outside (the original edition), so to return the favor, I began my journey to hunt for the copy she wanted. Where did I track? Bookstagram.

The second way I learned about ACOTAR was through Bookstagram; asking everyone where can I find the original covers, and they told me wonders about the books, so I was pumped. ACOTAR was a significant hit, and I have been living under a rock since 2016 cause I had no clue.

MY FIRST THOUGHTS?

Pumped cause of all the positive comments I read about this book series and eager to participate in the conversation, I went headfirst into the book, and OH BOY! the disappointment was tangible.

The first book (A court of thorns and roses) wasn't wrong, but it missed the mark for me. I hated the main Male Character (MMC) so much that I could not bare the sight of reading about him or his poor stupid choices.

Second of all, the Main Female Character (MFC) was so strong, and I was cheering for her, but at the same time, she made such poor decisions when she was influenced by the MMC that I just kept putting the book down out of pure frustration.

And last but not least, I loved the so-called "Male villain" of this story way more than the MMC, so much that it made me wish for the MMF (Feyra) to end up with him instead of Tamlim (MMC).

If you loved the villain more than the hero, there is something wrong with the book (or so I thought, bear with me on this one).

Luckily for me, my bookstafriends encouraged me to keep reading and told me, "Everything will make sense in the end; just keep reading," so I did so.

SECOND THOUGHTS?!

Three months after reading ACOTAR I finally decided to read ACOMAF; out of pure pressure from my bookstafriends asking about my second thoughts and because this series was in every "Fantasy reading challenge" I attempted. So I reap off the bandage and purchase the second installment of the series on my kindle.

I loved ACOMAF. My bookstafriends were right. The first book made so much more sense after reading the second one. I loved the twist on the story and that we, as readers, got the chance to discover the truth behind the masks (pond intended).

Enjoy the romance and how it destroyed the "Disney princess" standards.

I Loved the character development throughout the book.

I was delighted with the world-building background, the politics, and the conflicts that took place across the book.

ACOWAR, the third book in the series, scored three stars. It was a good transition between the events of the second book, the end of the war, and what was to come.

I keep appreciating SJM virtue in bringing "insignificant" events from previous books and giving them a more significant role or a more extensive meaning in the story, which made me feel better about reading every single word in the books (not skipping).

The only reason this was a three for me (and not a five) was that we followed these characters across three books, building the war's momentum. The war ended up so fast (a lot of casualties), but so fast, and there are only so many times when an author can pull the same trick about resurrection without feeling predictable.

Some people may hate my comment, but no main character dies in this series, and that was a bummer; it would have given the series a deeper layer.

ACOFAS was my least favorite; anyone can do without reading this one. It only adds to the series by explaining the events between the original war and the aftermath of it.

Lastly, ACOSAF, I loved it. It was a breath of fresh air to shift the focus from Feyra and Rhysand, to Cassian and Nesta. Terrific story (a little predictable at some points), but it kept me wanting more and more and more. I binge-read this book (And it was huge).

CONCLUSION:

Yes, the series has been over hype on IG and Tik Tok (But the promotion is well-deserved).

Yes, the first book is hard to swallow, but it improves if you can see beyond that.

The smut of the story is marvelous.

You grow to love each character and the development and decay each one goes through.

The series leaves you wanting more and more stories. You cannot get enough of Velaris, of the different courts of the cunning and the politics.

ACOTAR has become one of my favorite series, and I highly recommend it!
