A Story Of A Beginner Affiliate Marketer

What I've learned along the way and where I'm headed next

I always loved the idea of making money while I slept. I'm sure many of you feel the same way.

When I first heard about affiliate marketing, I knew that was something I wanted to get into. It sounded like a dream come true!

You don't have to create your product and it doesn't cost a lot to start a real online business.

So, how did I get started? In this blog post, I will share my story and how you can get started in affiliate marketing too.

What made me decide to start affiliate marketing.

In November 2021, my father introduced me to an affiliate marketing course and since I had nothing else to do I decided to check it out and saw it as a good income opportunity.

Website Creation

You don't have to own a website to start promoting products but I created one because it was recommended to me by my mentor for Branding, Landing Pages, Funnels, Hub, etc...

Anyway, I decided to start working on my website. At first, it was so overwhelming because there were a lot of things to consider.

I had to decide and create the logo, color scheme, content spacing, images, Icons, music, place holders.

It would have been so much easier if I had a lot of money and just hire people to help me with it.

But for me, I was on a small budget. So I had to do everything by myself and it took me 2 months to do everything.

No Regrets!

Finding the perfect products to promote

There are millions of products online that you can promote as an affiliate. It can be a little overwhelming when you don't know where to start.

For me, I decided to follow my mentor's advice and only promoted products that I use and would recommend.

This is another phase that took me a lot of time since I decided to promote several products.

For each product, I had to research more about the product, write a detailed review, and made comparisons with each product's competitors.

Finally, after more than 30 hours of research and writing, I am now ready to launch my website and get traffic!

Bad traffic and lost money

I know there are a lot of free ways to get traffic to your websites, like Youtube and Blog posts but I heard it takes time for your audience to grow and that paid traffic is the fastest way to get results.

But I was so excited to test the waters. I wanted to try it out as soon as possible.

By the way, my mentor recommended me a lot of paid traffic sources, like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Solo Ads, influencers, Native Ads, and many more.

However, I was on a very small budget so I decided to look for an alternative source for cheap traffic.

I then remembered Fiverr, I've heard a lot about it from Youtube influencers. So I purchased a few of those cheap services (ranging from $5-25), promising to promote my link to millions of viewers.

However, that was a big mistake! After reviewing the clicks from those visitors, I noticed that the bounce rate was 100%, which either means there's a problem with my link or the clicks weren't real.

I don't think there's a problem with the link I provided since it works perfectly with my other devices.

So I decided to research more about it and found out that those clicks were indeed from bots.

Don't get the wrong idea, Fiverr is a good site for purchasing other services but never for traffic! I would still recommend it.

Plans for the following months

So a few days from now, my mentor will provide us with a done-for-you funnel for his followers and the only thing we need to do is promote the link.

This March, I've decided to completely follow the advice of my mentor, and my budget for traffic this month is only $1000.

I also plan to create a Youtube channel and create more blogs.
