Introduction

Ramadan is here—a month of mercy, reflection, and boundless blessings. Whether you’re juggling work, studies, or family, these 8 easy-to-follow Sunnahs, practiced by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, will help you maximize rewards without overwhelming your schedule.

This time and meal have many benefits; it’s perfect for making dua, praying Tahajjud, additional ibaadah and generally just preparing yourself for the day ahead. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Take suhoor, for in suhoor there is blessing.’ (An Nasa’i)

1. Start With Sincere Intentions

Every act of worship begins with niyyah (intention). The Prophet ﷺ said, “Deeds depend on intentions” (Sahih Bukhari). Before bed, renew your intention to fast for Allah alone.

Pro Tip: Write your Ramadan goals on sticky notes for daily motivation.

The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of all the people and he used to become more generous in Ramadan when Gabriel met him. Gabriel used to meet him every night during Ramadan to revise the Qur’an with him. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) then used to be more generous than the fast wind. [Sahih Al Bukhari]

2. Power Up With Suhoor

Never skip suhoor! The Prophet ﷺ called it a “blessed meal” (Sahih Bukhari). Even a date and water suffice. Use this quiet time for dua or a quick Quran page.

Sunnah Recipe: Overnight oats with dates and nuts.

The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever prays Fajr in the congregation, then sits remembering Allah until the sun has risen, then he prays two Rak’ah, then for him is the reward like that of a Hajj and Umrah.” [Da’if. Jami` at-Tirmidhi]

3. Break Fast Mindfully

Break your fast with dates or water, following the Prophet’s ﷺ example. He ﷺ said, “Hasten to iftar” (Sunan Abu Dawud).

Dua Moment:

“Allahumma laka sumtu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu.”

4. Share the Blessings of Iftar

Host a community iftar or donate meals. The Prophet ﷺ promised,

“Feeding a fasting person earns their reward” (Sunan Tirmidhi).

Idea: Partner with local mosques to distribute meal kits.

5. Quran Over Scrolling

Swap social media time for Quran recitation. Allah says,

“This is a Book We have sent down as a blessing” (Quran 6:155).

Hack: Listen to Quran podcasts during chores.

6. Pray Taraweeh—Anywhere!

Can’t go to the mosque? Pray 8-20 rak’ahs at home. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever prays at night in Ramadan with faith, their sins are erased” (Sahih Bukhari).

Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Sadaqah does not decrease property and Allah increases the honor of him who forgives and no one will humble himself for Allah’s sake except that Allah raises his status.” [Related by Muslim]

7. Master the Art of Dhikr

Turn idle moments into worship. Say “SubhanAllah” 100 times daily—it takes just 2 minutes!

App Alert: Use “Dhikr & Dua” apps for reminders.

8. End With Forgiveness

Ramadan is prime time for mercy. The Prophet ﷺ urged, “Seek Allah’s forgiveness—He is Oft-Forgiving” (Sunan Tirmidhi).

Nightly Routine: Recite “Astaghfirullah” 100 times before bed.

Bonus: Smile—It’s Sunnah!

A smile is charity. Spread positivity at home, work, and mosques.

I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He (ﷺ) replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).”[At-Tirmidhi]

9: Read the Quran

Ramadan is the month of the Quran, so take this opportunity to really invest in the relationship you have with it. The Book of Allah SWT has a transformative power and it’s vital to give it the proper time to unlock this and feel the benefits.
