Judey Kalchik: Expect the Unexpected

I have known Judey Kalchik for about a year and a half now. Other than a few polite public acknowledgements I really had not dealt with her much.

Recently I had an issue with Vocal and I thought to myself, "Who can I reach out to?" Immediately, I thought of Judey Kalchik. She seems to know all the ins and outs of Vocal.

I messaged her and a few hours later she responded. I let her know what was on my mind and she gave me a few helpful suggestions which eventually led to a resolution.

During this time Judey displayed a fantastic sense of loyalty and confidentiality. I really appreciated this.

I was candid about this and let Judey know that she has displayed such a true sense of friendship.

At this point I knew I wanted to forge a friendship with her. I invited her to be a guest on my YouTube talk show called Ten Questions with Rick Henry Christopher. Thankfully she accepted the invite. I don't know what I would have done had she not accepted. I probably would have hid in a corner and cried 😜🤣. Okay maybe not… but I would have been bummed out.

After I sent her her interview questions and instructions, self doubt set in again. I kept thinking, "I hope she doesn't think this is dumb."

A few weeks later I received her video recording of responses and answers to my questions. What I saw just stunned me. I was amazed. I thought to myself, "Judey Kalchik is really good at this."

I was so impressed that I came to realize that I want to work with her more. This time with my self confidence bolstered, I invited her to be part of a four woman panel, I am assemblying, to get the woman's perspective on a variety of issues and everyday topics. Again she accepted and once again I jumped for joy. Okay, I didn't literally jump. But, I was very happy.

Back to this current episode. It is really a great interview. It goes from being heartwarming and tearful to outlandishly zany. It's been a long time since I had this much fun producing a show.

I'd like to spend a few moments talking about Judey the writer. At this point in time she has 230 stories published on Vocal Media (she also published on Medium but I don't have those stats).

One aspect I enjoy about Judy's writing is she exposes her vulnerabilities. The reader can easily relate to her strengths and weaknesses. She puts it out there in terms that are easy to understand. Her message comes across unpretentiously.

"Fifth Grade Friendship Poll" is a great example of Judy's vulnerable side.

Judey cares deeply about what happens to other people especially children. She has been known to be a crusader for peace.

This story "#Wear Orange Day" displays Judy's concern about children being killed due to gun violence.

In her story "Flea Market Flip Me" Judey cleverley associates the philosophies of life and growth to what happens on the reality show Flea Market Flip Me. Judy's outlook on life is intelligently on display here.

Getting to know Judey has been a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to growing a great friendship and vibrant social media association!
