Planning a Trip with Friends: Part 1

The biggest obstacle to go on a trip with friends is surely to convince the parents.

A trip seems to be a distant dream

We have been planning for a long time to go on a trip with just four of us. It has only been a year and a half since we first met and as time progressed, we became a group. We read in books and saw in movies that close friends always go on a trip together. However, the only place we have been able to go together is the University and a small Café beside the institute. It has been a few months since our planning began.

Each day we go to the college and spend half of our time discussion where we want to go. The first problem is the financial issue. After it has been solved, we needed to figure out where we want to go. The beach or the mountains. After persuading them for a long, everyone agreed that the latter is the better option.

When everything was set, we remembered that we needed to inform our families. It completely slipped out of my mind that the hardest obstacles is yet to be overcome. If I tell my parents, especially my mother that I will be going on a trip and there will be girls, she might faint right on the scene! I have completed several tough missions in God of War, Ghost Recon, Max Payne, etc., but I never felt this this much stressed before.

The rest of the group has managed to convince their parent about the trip, so the entire pressure was on me. I choose a quiet and peaceful day to talk with my parents. I felt nauseas and loud thumping of my heart as a took each step towards my parents' room. When I was about to enter, I saw my brother and sister-in-law were also present there. I lost all hope.

I gathered up whatever little confidence I had and entered the room. With a stern voice my mother asked me why I came. Without thinking anything, I blurted everything about the trip I was planning to go on. After listening to the whole narrative, my father said why I was not ready and where is my luggage. I was puzzled and was thinking what was he getting at. Then I asked him why he asked he that.

He said that the way I was speaking, it felt as if my train would leave within an hour and somehow I have to inform them and get out. Then all four of them started laughing. My brother, who is my greatest enemy, and have tried every popular wrestling move on me, said that everyone knew about the trip and was just waiting when I would ask for permission.

He mentioned that he knew about the trip from the long conversations that I had with my friends, and convinced mother and father beforehand. He was confident that his little brother would ask for permission at the last moment and his whole endeavour would turn out to be a glorious failure. I was so relieved, that I could have happily taken a Stone Cold Stunner from him.

My parents warned me to not wander around much and be safe. Since girls were also on the trip, they advised me to be on my best behaviour. In the end, they asked me when are we leaving and out train's date and timing. I said we are yet to buy train tickets. Suddenly, all four of them looked at me and said nothing.

I asked then what was the matter. They said in unison that all train tickets to Darjeeling have been booked for the upcoming three months. It never crossed my mind and I sat on the floor what a fool I was. They all laughed while I called my friends to give them the information about our next hurdle - train tickets!
