-Eyes of the Beholder: The 'Ayes' Have it-
Peculiar? I was always attracted to Women that 'Pout' - Upper Lip Squiggle Style. The "Hey you Lookin' at Me" 'Tude! Cute to me - can't even imagine why?
- ODDITIES ~ PEEVES -
What attracts you to the Opposite Sex, or the 'Neutral' Sex, for that matter — Or TurnOffs — we all have them.
Ok, I'll start: Along with being 'Pouty' I like Women that have 'Grace'. I know it's not an often used description these days, but just a soft-smile (and maybe a wink) will do it for me, not much more. Oh, and of course, a quick-wit

Men are often told 'I'm up here' since their eyes instantly land on a woman's chest at 1st glance; hence the Boob man: There are men who are experts in this not-so-subtle obsession; you ladies do cleavage-dress to attract though.
Some are Tush peekers. Ah, the ass-men among us who just can't resist turning around for that last look; especially with those who wear yoga pants. Then, there's me: I'm an 'Eye-Man' 1st and foremost - no matter the color or shape that's my 'turn-on.' So much can be told through eye expressions - often they can speak louder than mere words.
— Perhaps Love? Anyone experienced Love at 1st Sight? —
We met by luck at the .25 Cent car wash - probably not a quarter anymore? It is such a vivid memory: I was on my knees with a white plastic-tip Tiparillo cigar between my teeth (cool at the time) and no shirt while polishing my 'Mag' wheels. I looked up to see this incredibly lovely hot sight. A Woman wearing a 'Spaghetti-Strap' Sundress so transparent that I just couldn't stop staring at the sun~soaked freckled vision with my little cigar hanging from my lip ~ Let the Sunshine in ~
Perfect imperfection: She had two noticeably different colored eyes - Blueish and Brownish/with golden specks. Saying people rarely look into your eyes anyway - she would wear cleavage-clothes to prove that point.
There she was, I knew she was my 'IT' from that glance. I know, my bad, Mr. Shallow. She pulled up right next to my car. Although different colors we had identical Twin Chevy's, a sure conversation starter. She started talking to me first. My staccato words could only stutter out in awe while just looking at her. The automatic "Eyes-Up-Here" response should have kicked in, but a Mr. 'Eye Man' girl parts exception was taken this time...!
Rita Louise didn't have tattoos; not popular at the time. I have to admit not a big fan of tats. Some, no problem, but color-slathered all over the body-arms-neck - Good Needle Hurt? I just don't get it? No matter how it's explained and often rationalized to me from 'individual' statements as permanent tributes! Of course 'Dress-Code' is just a dinosaur expression these days.
In my youth, I navigated braces/with rubber bands. But, as an avid kisser, I now have trouble with attached lip metal ring-loops blocking the way to a woman's Kisser: probably an evasive shiny 'hint' to have me keep my distance.
I just wanted to think about that again ~ Now I have.
I once dated a High School Cheerleader who was also the Counter-Girl at Kinney Shoe Store, where Twin-Lar and I were Salesmen - Our 1st exposure to the 'Sales-Schmooze-Technique.'
She was SO cute, but she was gym-shower-shy after all of the 'Pom-Pom-Sweaty' games: I told her I was busy on game days! But, nothing shy about her in class. She never wore a bra {probably on perky purpose?} I let her look down at my papers and she let me look down her blouse; fair exchange. Well, the teacher said, Quote: "What are you both looking at" and Downgraded both of us. I'm Lovin' That Memory!
Favorite Expressions—We all have them:
- Some of the greatest conflicts are not between two people but between one {1} person - Ourselves.
- Advantage Old Age: You can compliment a Lady and she accepts it as just that..!
- Eyes shout what the lips are often afraid to speak ~ Silence can tell you secretly everything.

Some great word play here
Never dated a cheerleader. (Okay, let's face it, I rarely dated.) I did have one ask me in college why I was so mean to her in high school. (We were the only two from our graduating class of 344 to attend Yankton College, no a federal penitentiary, a lot of the same residents, old joke, still love it.) I asked how I was mean to her. She said, "Your brothers were always nice to me & always talked to me. But you never said two words to me." I said, "Lynn, you don't understand. I wasn't good enough. Everyone loved you & wanted to be around you. I couldn't compete!"
Loving this Jay. Cheeky little musings and memories 😄
It is always nice to connect with your profound thoughts, Jay. I am an "eye man". The windows to the soul. Although, like you, I'm sucker for lips, pouty or otherwise. I've not seen you recently. I pray all is well with you and yours. Sending thoughts your way from the Kansas heartland. ~ Rob
Always an entertaining read Jay! I love the originals you draw to accompany each piece, and these faces are particularly great😊
Hahah - Another fun and quirky reminisces to read, Jay! 😄
OK, J-man, I don't get my money back because this was so much fun. You just explained why men are from Mars and women are from Venus, but it's worked just fine all these years! Kudos to one of my favorite writers!! Signed, blue-eyed, redhaired girl.
well done
The eyes always show the way to the need for love and understanding. The perception of the eyes as gates of heaven soothes even the deepest pain.
Great story JB made me laugh. I was the sunglasses guy so I didn’t get caught starring. There’s nothing better than a spaghetti strap sun dress with plenty to look at and I know the girls wanted us to look. - Lon
Did Rita Louise finally snag the "eye-man?" I sure hope she did. This made me laugh about women with tats. During my days onstage if a woman walked in with tats she'd have gotten laughed off the stage. In the day, only sailors wore them with pride. (MOM)
I didn’t expect the eyes to change from the first drawing to the second, that was a nice touch. I could see the connection you two had, this was a great read.
Look at you! I bet you would make a great contestant on- "The Dating Game" show from the 60s or 70s... Except you wouldn't be able to see their eyes until you picked one, lol. This was a different side of you, gettin all weak in the knees from staring at all those women. Seriously, though. Loved the story about the car wash. Love at first sight does happen. You were one of the lucky ones. Now keep your eyes on the road and off all those fine specimens. Thank you for sharing, J-bro!!!
Jay, Such a great story about you and Rita Louise; thanks for sharing it. Love the two illustrations, of course. You are an excellent observer of human behavior, and yes, as a senior citizen you can say things that would have raised eyebrows if said in your younger years. Kathryn
Congratulations for placing as an Honorable Mention on this week's leaderboard for Most Discussed Stories. This is an awesome piece.
Loved these musings and drawings, Jay!
Love your artwork! Probably enough fodder in your story for 3-4 other stories. It does stir some special memories - Mart
JB - This one’s definitely a home run and brings back memories of oogling babes at the beach. You’ve also dislodged a memory of those damn “Kulots" the girls started to wear after all of the Hoopla of short mini-skirts, just about the time we were getting interested in those mysterious and carefully concealed body parts. Oh well, I probably should have stuck with their eyes, too. Guy
J-bud! Good to hear from you, "well-aged" friend! I'm 100% in your court with the eyes! Always my focus in life and in my drawings, too, when I was still doing that. (Not that I completely ignore all the other parts, of course.) Thanks for sharing a little bit of your past with us again, and in genuine J-fashion! d-bud
Another trip traveling down memory lane and loving your humorous story!!!🩷🩷💕
Love the sketches, as always. JK2
I love your reflections and insights. They are warm and nostalgic and fun. Gorgeous combination. ❤️
We appreciate this chuckle, my hubby and I -- and fabulous art. She has a gorgeous face and eyes; scroll down, and she's sticking her tongue out at you! hahaha
Ahhh, what a great piece, Jamigo! Giggled so much I almost spit out my coffee. Love the memories, too! The perfect mix of sweet and salty. And I agree on the eyes—I’m a sucker for eyes…“windows of the soul” Nothing more beautiful than someone who can look you in the eyes— a rarity these days. I’ve always been told that my eyes tell everything. It keeps me honest.😆 Love at first sight is my story with Dave. We’ve been together since our first date, almost 26 years ago. Thank you for the morning laughs and cute and saucy memories you shared. Always a pleasure to read your brain on paper…or screen. *I LOVE the schtick art! Looks like those colored pencils are coming in handy 😊
I'm with you when it comes to eyes. They can say so much about a person, it's where I look first. I can take or leave the tats, but what I hate are nose piercings and rings. Nobody's nose is worth a second look so why distract from a great pair of eyes or the perfect figure so people will stare at your nose? Great story as always J-bud.
