Why Regular Job Can No Longer Sustain Me - Bambam

"How much are they paying?"

By Jide OkonjoPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Reality TV star most popular for being in Nigeria's biggest reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, Bambam is opening up during an interview with The Punch about a number of things including whe she went on the show, and more controversially, why she can't do regular jobs. The actress and mother spoke candidly about her thoughts, but the things she said have caused some mixed reactions, especially from people who do this type of work she says she can't do, on an everyday basis. Here is what Bambam had to say.

First, speaking about why she decided to participate in the competition reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, Bambam opened up about it saying:

BAMBAM: One of the major reasons I went into the Big Brother show was because I needed more visibility as a professionally trained actor.

She continued, talking about the advantage the show gives to people who go on it, saying:

BAMBAM: It’s not easy to stand out in this industry as a filmmaker because it is very saturated. So, yes, going for a show like Big Brother gives you an unfair advantage over other people.

Speaking further about how her celebrity has helped her, and why it is important to have a social media platform and fame, Bambam opened up saying:

BAMBAM: What makes brands come to you is because you are famous. Brands will not want to identify with anybody who does not have great engagement on their social media platforms. So, the social media platform is literally your work tool that makes brands want to work with you.

Then, she opened up about how her current work of being a celebrity and influencer is something that she can not trade for any reason, especially in favor of going to work a regular job like being a microbiologist. Bambam said:

BAMBAM: With what I get from endorsements, if I had a regular paying job, that money would not sustain my lifestyle monthly. How much are they paying microbiologists in general hospitals today? Even if it is a private hospital, what is the highest that they can pay?

But even with the good pay, Bambam admits that it is not all roses and cream. The actress explains how being a reality TV star can come with its own hindrances and advices others trying to navigate the industry in the same way that she did. She said:

BAMBAM: You have to put in the work and trust God to provide you with opportunities where you can showcase yourself beyond just being a reality TV star. It’s only time and maximising opportunities.
