Communication is one of the most important attributes in any relationship. When communication is lacking then the relationship suffers. Some other important attributes is Respect, Trust, and Individuality. If a relationship lacks any of these items, most times a relationship will fail. However, it takes two to keep a relationship alive.

Unfortunately, some people will stay in a relationship that lacks these things and they usually suffer in some form. While this article is not about relationship advice, having a healthy relationship plays immensely when it comes to parenting.

So how could you tell if your relationship is lacking any of these things? Well the first thing I would check is your communication. If there's no communication then what kind of relationship are you in? If you're not able to talk to your partner about basic things, let's say about your day, then what are you gaining from your relationship? If you can't talk to your partner then I suggest that you get some professional help. If he respects y'all relationship then he should be willing to go get some help to work on y'all communication.

That leads us to the next thing respect. Respect is a strong attribute because this involves yours and your partners character. Respect is deep, you can have respect for your partner and not communicate, but the other way around leads to dissatisfaction. So how can you know if your partner respects you. Here's some key things does your partner show gratitude towards what you do in the relationship, do they go above and beyond to please you, do they actually work towards y'all issues that you bring up. If you can safely answer yes to any least one of those things then your partner respects you.

Now another key issue is trust, and this one is a big one because honestly actions do speak louder than words. Can you trust your partner? How would you know if you can? Again here's some tips if you can leave your child with your partner, you trust them, if you can rest knowing your partner is hanging out with some friends, you trust them. However, if you can't do these two things then the trust is gone. It's quite simple, science says trust needs to be earned, but in reality we trust our partners from the start. Whether it's with finances, our children, our car, etc. We trust our partners to do what's right. Also if see our partner respond to a situation in a favorable way that shows and gains trust.

So lastly we go to individuality. This involves either having your own personal interests to having your own friends. If either of you lack this, then it's time that y'all have a talk. Think about it, if your relationship is only held together by being around each other 24/7 how could you possibly have your own goals or aspirations? We all deserve time to ourselves and time to relfect on our life. Having your own goals, friends, and dreams will only drive your relationship to be stronger. You bring more to the table when you have things to talk about, when you have things to do per say.

In conclusion, when is the last time you checked your relationship? If any of these items hit home then it might be time to re-evaluate your relationship. Not in the terms of breaking up, but maybe some of these items mentioned might the underlying cause of your issues in your relationship.
