What Widowhood Has Shown Me - Ka3na

Ka3na opens up

By Jide OkonjoPublished about a year ago 3 min read

In 2023, Big Brother Naija star and business woman Ka3na revealed the death of her husband who she unfortunately lost to cancer. She wrote around the time of her husband's passing saying:

"KA3NA: Today, I found the courage to put these words together. Life won this time!! I was only 9yrs old when I lost my father. My mom said I cried while everyone else was but my tears were hunger related. I never knew what it felt like to lose a loved one until I received the sad call from the hospital on 01-05-2023!

Took exactly three days for me to actually process the information and from that moment of acceptance, grief has consumed my entire world. Everyone is asking me to move on but how?? Your death has made our daughter fatherless and your Kate a widow in her 20s. Regardless of all the pains you went through in the last days of your life, you never gave up hope!

You kept on saying, ‘My Kate don’t worry! I’m going to beat cancer and be here for our Lila’s 18th birthday & graduation’. Oh death how could you? Flashbacks, memories & our beautiful daughter are all I have left of you. Bitterness has consumed my heart. How do I move on with life? You were my only true backbone and confidant in everything.

You loved & adored me till the very end. I will never forget! I will never let go!! I will cherish them for the rest of my life."

The above was what Ka3na shared last year after her husband's death. Now, as 2024 is coming to an end, Ka3na is reflecting on the year and opening up about what she is thankful for, as well as speaking about what becoming widowed has shown her. Here's what Ka3na had to say.

Ka3na and husband

Speaking about what becoming widowed has made her discover, Ka3na said in an Instagram open letter:

KA3NA: My Greatest Accomplishment This Year is Being Alive

Feeling so proud of myself right now! It's been two years since my body completely rejected alcohol. It wasn't a personal choice — I realized after moving to the UK that my system could no longer tolerate it. I tried to push through, but the consequences were severe, to the point where even the smell of alcohol now makes me sick. That's also part of the reason you won't find me in nightclubs anymore.

As I step into the new year, I'm embracing mindfulness and continuing my celibate journey. Since becoming widowed, I've discovered how spiritually aligned and focused life can be without sexual distractions. Honestly, I don't miss the physical side of things — what I've truly missed is companionship and emotional support.

Until someone comes along who can fill that role, I'm staying single, focused, and productive.

I also want to take a moment to thank my amazing Instagram community for their endless love and support throughout this year. Your encouragement means the world to me, and I'm so grateful to have you on this journey with me. I look forward to achieving great things together in 2025!

Cheers to the new year ahead!
