What is the Obsession With Social Media?

I don't get why people are so desperate to be on their phones…

I'm not sure if I have already talked about this, but the phone obsession has honestly been really getting to me. I've also been hearing stories about how phones have destroyed the workplace, leading people who were once ambitious, becoming lazy and obsessed with their phones.

I have lost count how many times I have lost my mind whenever I am driving on the road, and I get so confused with why that person wasn't paying attention, or why they were driving so weird.

Until I see the phone, I realize why people are being stupid on the road.

Like seriously, why do you need to be on your phone sending a random text or scroll through social media whenever you're driving?

I have one single rule whenever I'm the one driving.

I will NEVER answer the phone if I'm on the road. If someone is calling me, the other person on the line will have to wait. The phone is nonexistent to me whenever I'm behind the wheel. I want to be safe and not be an idiot.

Also, whenever I'm working any job, I'm only on my phone if I'm ALLOWED, or I'm ON BREAK. Why the hell do people use their phones when they are working? What are you going to miss exactly? Are you that obsessed with wanting to know how your 300 friends on Facebook are doing?

And side note: I highly doubt any of those people would offer to help you if you suddenly got a flat tire in the middle of the road. You are just a follower to brag about to other strangers online. Nothing more.

And what's even crazier than that, is that people actually post things on social media while they are WORKING. One of the craziest stories I ever heard of, is a flight attendant who posted herself 'twerking' during the job. She immediately was let go. Why post that? Are you that determined to get fired from your dream job over something stupid?

TikTok is apparently the main social media that these idiot workers like to use to post these kinds of videos, and wow, it's like TikTok is purposely giving me more reasons to dislike this app.

I once someone mentioning a painting to me, but I honestly don't remember who told me or where I had heard about it. This random artist used real photos of people on their phones, but took out the phones from the picture completely. What you get is a sort of creepy image, of people staring at their hands.

Another creepy one I heard about, was back in college. Some random student once told me:

"Imagine if people were given the option to have their phones stitched into their hands. I think a lot of people would agree to it."

This bothered me a lot, and I found myself picturing people walking around me at the university, their hands stuck to their phones forever.

These two phone obsessions events stayed with me, because this is the perfect metaphor of being so obsessed with an object. These people are not in reality, and it's both scary and sad. What happened to people back in the old days? The ones who loved to talk to each other, or get all obsessed with a physical copy of a book?

That's me. I'd rather have a book in my hands than be on my phone. Sure, I'll miss the horror stuff I have to watch, but reading a good horror story that will get under my skin is the perfect way to escape from reality.

How do you feel about this phone obsession?
