What I Had to Do to Act These Scenes With Kate Henshaw - Genoveva Umeh
Genoveva remembers her time on "Blood Sisters"

Netflix's original series Blood Sisters definitely caught the attention of Nollywood watchers all over the world when it dropped. It is an amazing show with a stellar cast of top name actors including Kate Henshaw, Uche Jombo, Ini Dima-Okojie, Deyemi Okanlawon, Nancy Isime, and more. The new kid on the block was the actress who portrayed Timeyin, the daughter of Kate Henshaw's character in the show. Her name is Genoveva Umeh.
Walking into a room and seeing some of the biggest names in Nollywood knowing that you have been selected to walk alongside them has to come with a lot of pressure to deliver. I am very curious to know how Genoveva felt when she walked into that room, and also how it was acting such intense scenes with heavyweight actress Kate Henshaw. Luckily, the good women over at TVC's esplash got to sit down with Geneveva and ask these questions. Here's what Geneveva said.

"Being the "underdog" on that set with Kate Henshaw, Nancy Isime, Ini Dima-Okojie, Deyemi Okanlawon, people that breathe acting professionally. And you're just that girl that just pops in and all eyes are on you, how did you feel?"
Walking into the table read I was like what on earth? There's Gabriel Afolayan, and I'm like what is this room? But I remember Gabriel and he was just like really kind enough. He literally nudged me. I was like I can't believe I'm here. He was like "ah ah, no be us just komot for Lekki Epe, wetin? Relax!" So he made me so comfortable. As well as the rest of the cast as well. When I think of Aunty Kate, I think of how I've worked with her in 2019. I was an associate producer on a play she was on. So we had that relationship. And then there's these other actors like Nancy, Ini who I'd worked with before, we worked on Oga Pastor, this show on NdaniTV that was cancelled at one point. So there was familiarity in the room but there was also like me like being an actor and being there like enjoying the moment for what it was. They're really professional and they're ready to work. In terms of rehearsal and stuff, it was just all about the characters we were playing so yeah, it was a great time.
"Acting alongside Kate Henshaw, I feel like I would be having chest pain. Like that scene, cuz you were in her face, how do you keep a straight face in a moment like that?"
Aunty Kate is really disciplined so like bruh, you just have to like match her discipline. And again, the scene was so important for Timeyin cuz she's like mum, look at me. See me for the first time, see me as somebody that wants to change and I need you to support my change. So yeah, focusing on that scene just kind of takes you away from oh my god, it's Aunty Kate cuz that's like generally like everyday you know. She's a phenomenal actress.

Wow, what an experience! Geneveva really did amazing in the show and was able to stand on her own two feet throughout the production. It must have been really intimidating working with such powerhouses so it's good to see how well she fared and how wonderfully the project came out ultimately.
What did you think about Geneveva's performance and how do you think you would have done if you were in her shoes on such a set? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
