Tommy's Dream Dance Studio

Short Story

By Anne BlythePublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, there was a boy named Tommy. Tommy lived in Los Angeles, one of the biggest cities in the world! Tommy always wanted to be a professional dancer! His secret desire was to have his own dance studio for kids. Something Tommy was working towards was to one day own his own studio! The reason Tommy has not succeeded in making his dream come true was because his father did not want him to be a dancer! His father would always get mad at him for dancing, because he thought it made him look weak and sensitive. "You should do something that is more manly!" his father would always say. This was why Tommy and his father never got along.

Tommy just wanted to be free! He wanted to be free to do what he loved to do and not worry about what other people think. He wanted to be able to have his own thoughts and opinions on things without being harassed about it. Tommy found it annoying that his dad would make him join a sport that he had no interest in doing! All Tommy wanted to do was dance to music! Tommy used to cry every day about him not allowed to follow his dream, and how his father would always make fun of him. "I just want to be a dancer! How does that make me girly?!" he cried.

Tommy's father was furious when Tommy did not listen to him! It made him so mad that Tommy did not listen to him. One day, Tommy's father was lecturing Tommy saying, "Tommy, I know what is best for you. You should listen to me. People are going to think that you are strange because you like to dance! Give up this crazy dream and focus on something practical!" This statement made Tommy so angry that he screamed and walked away into his room and slammed the door! Why couldn't he be who HE wanted to be!

Later that day, Tommy and his father went to baseball practice, and Tommy's father was yelling at him to focus on the game. The coach pulled Tommy's father to the side and said,"Don't you think you are being a little bit unfair to your son?"

"What are you talking about?!? I just want was is best for him! He wants to be some dancer and I want him to focus on the realistic things in life and be a man!" Tommy's father said shocked at how the coach talked to him. Tommy was so furious that he yelled at his father and asked him why did it matter that he wanted to dance? Boys can dance too! Boys and Girls can do anything they wanted to! Why did it matter what gender did a certain activity?

Tommy's father was so mad at Tommy that he took him by the arm and dragged him home. Tommy was FURIOUS that he exploded, "I am not someone that you can push around and decide what I should do with MY life! I should be able to do what makes me happy! So, just STOP!"

Tommy's father was shocked at how his son just talked to him, so he just walked away. Tommy was so happy that his father walked away and left him alone. Tommy did feel a little bad about yelling at his dad but at the same time he knew that he had to say what he had said. Tommy was very proud of himself.

The next day, Tommy was determined to save up some money to rent some place for his dance studio. He got a job and then eventually found a place that was perfect for his dance studio! His father was shocked at how hard his son was working towards this dream he had. Tommy was so anxious that his father would try to stop him but he never said a word. Tommy's father just bitterly watched him do his thing. He gave up on trying to help his son.

Tommy was so annoyed with his dad, because a dad was supposed to be someone who backed you up no matter what you did. He viewed his father as crazy for ignoring him. As soon as Tommy got his dance studio running he called his dad over to check everything out. To his astonishment his father was really impressed with everything that Tommy did. A lot of people came to Tommy's dance studio just to learn to dance. Tommy was so happy that his father was able to learn that if you put your heart and mind into something you can achieve anything. He also learned that just because you are a boy does not mean you can't do things that girls can do!
