The Power of Words Changing Your Life

Make your Mind Obedient by Shutting Your Mouth

By XelPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

It’s not hard to know whether or not you are a good person. I mean, we are all aware of the things that we do or don’t do on a daily basis. However, sometimes it is hard to notice whether or not we are positive people. One day, someone said I was acting different and I asked them how. They said I wasn’t being as positive as I usually am. That shocked me because the whole day I had been smiling and joking around. However it was not the way that I was acting but the things that had been coming out of my mouth. Have you ever caught yourself speaking negativity on something that you actually want a positive outcome to come from?

For instance, if I am dating a guy and he does not text back within a certain time frame, my mind automatically jumps to the idea that either he is probably with another girl or he does not want to talk to me. So if I am with my girls, I’ll probably say “he’s probably with his other girlfriend”. To some people this will seem like nothing but do I want him to actually be with his other girlfriend? No. So… why would I say that? It seems so small and simple but the words that we speak hold an immense amount of power. By saying he is with his other girlfriend is basically speaking it into existence. Instead, I should say, “oh he is probably busy and at work”. Even if that is not the case, it’s better for me to just say nothing at all rather than speak negativity into the situation. Although I cannot control my thoughts all of the time, I can make them obedient by not letting those negative thoughts come out of my mouth.

Last week, I was having one of the worst days of this year so far. At the end of the night, I laid down and thought about everything negative I had said throughout my today. Today sucks. Nothing ever goes right for me. No one will ever take me serious. All people do is take me for a joke. My finances will always be a problem in my life. The list goes on. During the moments of saying these things, I thought that I was just speaking the truth but I was actually just speaking on my outlook of my current circumstances.

If we continue to speak on all of the negative thoughts that we have, we are going to live that life that we speak of. The problem is that, negativity needs to be fed to stay alive. How do we feed it? Through our thoughts and mostly through the words that we speak. So by stopping those words from coming out, we began to teach our mind that these thoughts are not healthy and because of that, we will not entertain them. Overtime, those negative thoughts will slow down and allow room for more positive thoughts to flow in.

One way to practice this is by writing those negative thoughts down on a piece of paper on one side. On the other side write the reality of those thoughts down. For example, if you say my finances are always going to be an issue in my life, on the other side you could say “If I continue to work hard and be positive, I will see the reward. I will get through this and I can get though this”. Speak positivity into your life so that you see the benifits of doing so.

Another way to practice getting your mind right is by practicing gratitude. Wake up each day by naming three things that you are grateful. How you start your day will set the tone for the rest of your day, so if you start your day off on a positive note this will allow for the rest of your day to be positive as well.

So my CHALLENGE for you today is to make yourself go 24 hours without allowing yourself to say ANYTHING negative. We cannot stop what we think but we can stop what we say. If you have a negative thought that cannot leave your mind, write it down somewhere and then on the side of it, write the reality of the situation. A lot of times we think our thoughts are our truth but the truth is reality. Our thoughts are only our PERCEPTION of reality, which is not always true. Our thoughts are usually based off of experience.

So, start your 24 hours now and see how much change in your day it creates.
