I sat at my desk, staring at a blank page. The weight of my thoughts pressed heavily on me, whispering words of inadequacy. “What am I even worth?” I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper. The question lingered in the air, heavy and unanswered.

As I drifted into a restless sleep that night, a peculiar figure appeared in my dreams. Clad in a suit that shimmered like stardust, the figure introduced himself with a confident grin.

“I’m the Keeper of Worth,” he declared. “I’ve come to calculate your value.”

I blinked, unsure whether to laugh or argue. “Good luck. I’m not worth much.”

The Keeper chuckled, pulling out a glowing ledger. “Let’s see about that.”

First, the Keeper listed my physical possessions.

“Let’s start with your savings. Hmm, you’ve got a decent safety net. That’s $10,000.”

I shrugged. “It’s something, I guess.”

Next, he moved to my belongings my computer, books, furniture, and even my collection of stories. “Priceless in heart, but let’s say $5,000 for now.”

I was surprised. “You value my stories?”

“Of course! Stories carry dreams and truths,” the Keeper replied. “They’re treasures.”

He scribbled a final number: $28,000.

“Now,” the Keeper said, leaning closer, “the real fun begins.” He waved his hand, and images of my life appeared.

The first was of me holding my children. “Your love for them is boundless. That’s worth a million.”

My eyes softened. “But they don’t even see it.”

“They will,” the Keeper assured me, writing the number.

Then came my creativity my stories, my ideas, my dreams of 3D printing. “That’s another $500,000. A creative soul is rare.”

Next was my resilience, captured in scenes of me weathering life’s storms. The Keeper wrote $200,000 with a smile.

“And your humor, empathy, and kindness?” He tapped his pen. “Let’s add $100,000. People like you make the world a better place.”

The intangible ledger glowed, totaling $1.8 million.

The Keeper turned serious, flipping to a smaller section. “Every story has its shadows,” he said gently.

I watched as my self-doubt appeared, swirling like a storm. “That’s a weight,” the Keeper murmured, jotting down -$50,000.

Then came the image of me feeling replaced standing on the sidelines of my children’s lives. “This one hurts,” the Keeper said, writing -$20,000.

The liabilities totaled -$70,000, but the Keeper closed the ledger with a wink. “Nothing we can’t work on.”

The Keeper waved his hand, and the numbers danced in the air.

I gawked at the glowing figure. “That’s... that’s me?”

“Every bit of it,” the Keeper replied. “Your worth isn’t just about what’s in your wallet. It’s in your love, your struggles, your dreams, and the way you touch others’ lives. Never forget that.”

I woke up with a start, the dream vivid in my mind. I glanced at my desk, now littered with scribbled notes from the Keeper’s ledger.

I smiled for the first time in days. Maybe, just maybe, my worth wasn’t as invisible as I thought.
