We all have plans, wishes and expectations of how people will act or how an event, our day and our lives will turn out. Unfortunately, things don't always work out as we hope. Too often, things seem to twist and turn in ways we did not expect or foresee.
As she drove her car, she knew she was heading in a wrong direction, but something is pulling her towards this centuries - old castle. The narrow roads and the stone- built walls were giving her a sense of mystery and ambiguity. “Drive safe and sound” her heart is whispering but Helen could not ignore the blood rush mounting on her. It is not that she had not been here before, but this time the feeling is not explainable . Stephen, “yes he was the one whom she was looking for”. Her senses reminded her that something is eluding about this man. Last time, when she was dancing with him at the ballroom, she could feel his strong arms surrounding her delicate waist and all that she could remember was sipping on the vodka and drooling away in his arms.
‘Helen please don’t go’, her heart is murmuring but she drove quick . As she reached the castle, the huge Iron Gate slid open for her. This is magnificent! Why do I feel strange? When did I see this place? Helen could not disregard the feelings she had been getting as she entered the vicinity of the castle. She had been a visitor to the castle since few months and Stephen was her friend in University. The first time they met was in the library of the Edinburgh University campus and she could see the sparkle in his eyes. Stephen had a charm which went beyond description. She loved reading so did he and they preferred the same book, the one written by James Woods. He was polite enough to offer the book to her and Helen could sense the gentleness of this man. Since then he had been a visitor to the library and Helen did enjoy the conversations and discussions with him.
Helen could remember the first time when she was asked for a date by Stephen and it was an invitation to his house. As she drove with him she was amazed to know that he was a Duke and she was alarmed by this truth. It was mysterious on the part of Stephen that he never disclosed his royal hierarchy to Helen. And this enigmatic persona of Stephen pulled her more close to him. The first time she entered the castle with Stephen was a few months back and she did not want to cherish that moment.
That day the way the breeze touched her face gave her instant chills. As she sipped the cup of tea given she looked at him and she could find that he is not as simple as she thought of him to be. A strange sparkle in his eyes told Helen that he had a mystery surrounding his soul. The painting on the wall was disturbing as she could see his entire family portrayed in it. She very well knew that he was a married man in his thirties but surprisingly the house had no one to assure this fact. With couple of maids and butler, the castle was as silent as the green mountain valleys. That evening when Helen stepped into the castle with Stephen was not an unusual moment but this encounter had many stories to tell. If she insisted she could have gotten to know more about his family but she kept quiet and continued to accompany Stephen all along the castle. The huge chandelier caught her eye and she was amazed by the sight of the Persian carpet which decorated the floors of the hall. Do I deserve to be the part of this house? Will this meeting take me to another relationship? Helen Wondered to eternity.
