The Little Black Notebook:
A Guide for Black Girls in America.

- Written by a black girl.
- On her little black note book.
Society loves us.
Everyone has that one black friend.
I am beyond thankful if you said.
“Well, I have more then one black friend”.
Please pay attention we aren’t talking about you!
Now back to the story before I was so rudely interpreted by the “All Lives Matter People”.
For some , its a bit more acceptable if she is a girl.
Trust, people are strange.
People tend to be less standoff when it’s a girl.
Yet black girls have a such an important role. Even in history. We slay!
America has always looked to black girls to lead the pact. Rumor has it , Obama really only one because the people fell in love with Michelle.
Don’t quote me on that!
But just imagine a contest where you win $20,000 just for being yourself. And no, the challenge isn’t how to be a black girl in America. The contest dare us to be unapologetically ourselves.
The Rules were simple; be creative , stand on your ground, be respectful, and where there is a will , there is a way. The challenge said write a story about anything.
Of course ! there was a bit of fine print but let’s be honest who reads that gibberish anyways. I couldn’t make this up. There it was clear as day ,on a flyer on my way to work. Maybe it was a sign !
God finally listened to the voicemail I sent him. Amen.
So many things had happened and yet I couldn’t catch a break. But with this I had nothing to lose. And $20,000 to gain.
Contest was sponsored by the Lions Club. The neighborhood watchmen. The contest was held every year. This year was very different. Instead of the usually old white man that run the club. Over the course of the year, the club lost some members and gained a lot of new blood. A little black girl magic I must add.
With some donations from the neighborhood locals and the Lions member doing their community car washes they were able to give out one of the biggest prize in the clubs history of $20,000.
It was clear as day!
I had to enter!
But the question remained what should I write about.
Though the rules were so simple, yet so very complex.
The biggest challenges would be picking your subject. And finding your plots.
As if life wasn’t challenging enough.
This contest was like writing with a blind fold on.
So I choose to write about what I knew about. Something that would make you feel me and understand the emotions and feelings of the writer.
For this is what life is about.
Being a black girl in America was difficult, we’re held to a higher standard then many could imagine.
Our expectations on life is easier altered due to the misconception of life and beauty within our society. Yet we try and rise.
We’ve always tried to shine our light , even when things don’t seem right.
As decades go by, the view of beauty
change.
What once was frowned upon is now praise in society. Big lips and big behinds so many young girls were teased and ashamed. But I’d like anything in life everything is subject to change.
Being a black girl in America means taking advantage of every opportunity that may come your way.
No matter how big or small.
For you never know when we’ll go outta style again.
But then again black girls are a wave!
We never go outta style!
We just start new waves!
When society try’s steal our ways.
