The brain is a major part of the human body, which controls the whole human body. The brain is the second largest organ. The brain gets signals from other organs using nerves and the spinal cord. The brain is in a fluid called the Cerebrospinal fluid. The brain throws out the information that is useless and stores the useful information in it. The brain never sleeps or rests. The human brain has 100 billon neurons. The brain weighs 3 pounds. It is and about 6 inches long about 5.5 inches’ wide The brain can do septillion (1 with 24 zeros) calculations in a second. 75% of the brain is water and the rest is made of mostly fat. When a baby is born, the upper part of the skull called the ‘sagittal suture’ is not joined. Then the skull slowly joins with age. Leech has 32 brains. Among the animal kingdom's most primitive animals, the sea sponge stays relatively immobile. It's the water that moves them around and makes them look like they're dancing. Their survival centers around filtering detritus from the ocean. They have no brains, organs, neurons, or tissueThe ragworm is an animal similar to an earthworm with the smallest brain. The ragworm is very small in size. It is equivalent to almost one strand of human hair. The most complex brains are found in squids and octopods. The nervous system and brain of Octopus is the largest and most complex one among invertebrates
the human brain produces about 70,000
thoughts in a day
the sperm whale has the biggest brain. it
weighs about 20 pounds.
20 percent of the oxygen and blood in our body
is used by our brain.
The brain has four main parts: Cerebrum,
Cerebellum Amygdala and brainstem.
But we will also talk about pituitary and
hypothalamus
Parts of the brain
Cerebrum
Cerebellum
Amygdala (
Brain stem
Pituitary
Hypothalamus
The colored part is the cerebrum.
The cerebrum is the biggest part of your brain.
It covers 85% of the brain.
The cerebrum is the top portion of the brain.
The cerebrum thinks and controls your muscles.
The cerebrum has four parts Frontal Lobe,
Occipital Lobe, Parietal Lobe and Temporal
Lobe.
Frontal Lobe - This part of the brain regulates
our planning and problem solving.
Occipital Lobe - This is where our sight is
processed
Parietal Lobe - This part of the brain controls
our taste and touch.
Temporal Lobe - Hearing is controlled in this
part of the brain.
Cerebellum
The Cerebellum is a small part of your brain.
It covers just 10% of your brain.
The cerebellum controls your balance and
movements and actions of the muscles.
Amygdala
Amygdala is named after it’s almond shape.
Amygdala means almond in Greek.
The Amygdala covers 3% of the brain.
Amygdala stores the memory and controls the
feelings.
Brainstem
The brainstem connects with the spinal cord.
The brainstem covers 2% of the brain.
The brainstem controls the actions which we
don't realize like breathing, digesting etc. The
brainstem is also known as medulla.
Pituitary
The pituitary is a small pea sized part of the
brain. The pituitary makes food into energy.
The Pituitary is also responsible for growth of
hormones.
Hypothalamus
The hypothalamus is below the cerebrum.
The hypothalamus is above the pituitary.
The hypothalamus controls body temperature.
The hypothalamus processes your sight.
