The Fetishization of Black Women on Tik Tok
The Black Woman Fetish on Tik Tok Has to Go

There has been an increase of Tik Tok videos where a lot of non-black men are declaring their love of black women in a mostly cringey manner. This trend sparked after numerous black men would make videos bashing black women in favor of other races and using the excuse of it just being their "preference."
Black women have often been discriminated against for their skin color, their hair, their faces, and their bodies. This is no secret and there are numerous videos and articles on the topic. Black women are also the demographic with the least amount of marriages. Now, you might think that this is just by chance, but I assure you it's not.
THE ODDS OF MARRIAGE GO UP THE LIGHTER YOU ARE
Due to the colorism, degradation, and sexism that black women continuously face, marriage rates amongst this group are at a far lower rate than any other race of women. According to Black Demographics, around 50% of black women have never been married. This is a percentage that has increased over the years. This, in some way, is due to the fact that a good portion of black men are marrying women of other races.
Let's also not glaze over the stagerring number of black men that are in prison. Let's ALSO not forget that a lot of non-black men are often shunned or disowned for dating, let alone, marrying a black women. So, where are all of these black women, loving men coming from?
THESE PROBLEMATIC TIK TOKS
To some people, this might not seem like a big issue because from the surface it just looks like different men are showing black women love. A group of women that have often been overlooked and marked as undesirable. So, we should sit down, shut up, and be grateful right?
WRONG!
The problem is these non-black men are usually dressed in "urban" clothing and rapping to some song about a bad, black "b*tch." It is also the annoying comparison to some type of food like chocolate. Last time I checked, black women are not edible and our skin does not taste like chocolate.
The worst part is that these Tik Tok videos are being celebrated by some black women who are so happy to finally be acknowledged. The sad truth is that a lot of these men don't actually like black women. They are actually doing these videos to get more likes, comments, and followers, so that their videos start getting favored more by the Tik Tok algorithim.
Let's take black women out of the equation for a minute and input another race of women, like hispanic women. If everyone on Tik Tok was making videos on how amazing hispanic women were and the videos were trending, then a lot of people would follow that trend.
This is such a sickening trend because a skin color cannot be a preference. It is literally the largest organ on someone's body and you cannot be attracted to an organ. It is a weird fetish and one that seriously needs to be cancelled.
A woman is beautiful depsite her skin color and this type of trend is favoring one race of women over the other. As a result, just making and posting this type of video is an insult to all races of women. It bascially says, "You are not dateable to me because you don't look like THIS." It is causing women of various races to get into Tik Tok comment wars about skin color and preferences. It is causing a divide amongst women.
THE UNDESIRABLE BLACK WOMAN
Women of color, especially black women, are constantly told that they are undesirable which feeds into their insecurities. They have been told this their entire life, even by men who look just like them. So, when good-looking non-black men praise them, they love it. They think that their beauty is FINALLY being acknowledged, but they are sadly mistaken.
These black women don't know that they are JUST seen as a prop in a trend that will soon die out like many other trends. This is not because they are not beautiful, but because this was all a show. You see, these non-black men are making these videos and expecting praise from black women, which they often get. It's almost like they are saying reward me for liking you and not being "racist." It is a trend that is sadly growing more popular and some of these men are even making monetary gains off of this trend.
I am all for men liking black women, but stop fetishizing us as if we are an object. It is degrading and it draws more attention to the fact that black women are often not seen as desirable. I am not saying that a man cannot acknowledge our beautiful dark skin, but don't look at us like you want to eat us.
THE STRUGGLE
It is not easy being a black women and it is not a trend. We are often oppressed, payed less, and dismissed. We have to mentally work on our confidence and build ourselves up every SINGLE day because once we step out into the world, we are attacked and constantly told that we are ugly and worthless.
These Tik Tok videos are not complimenting black women. They are honestly making things worse for black women, so do us all a favor and JUST STOP. Black women are not a trend and have been beautiful and will continue to be beautiful even after this trend dies down.
Instead of women supporting these stupid trends, we need to start supporting each other. We need to stick together and uplift each other because some days are harder than others and some days the racist and sexist words, of others, get to us. If women work together to cancel these trends, then they will not succeed. We have to start calling out these type of men for making any video, such as these, that bash or fetishize ANY race of women. Women uplifting each other is a trend that needs to happen, but these Tik Tok videos, are a trend, that need to die.
