The Everyone Prompts
a prompt idea for the entire vocal community
Hello everyone.
I thought of an idea just a few days ago that I would like to share with you all.
I used to love participating in community-made challenges (now also because I no longer have Vocal+… oopsie). They’re quite fun, and they’re a way to involve everyone, even those who are new to the community. If I remember correctly, they’re just prompts that one writer gives out to all the writers, and then all the writers write something, and sometimes there are winners chosen.
But I am not an unbiased judge. (Nobody is, right?) And I don’t trust my junior self to judge the writings of senior writers, if you know what I mean. So, for this prompt idea that I have, there may not be any winners.
We’re all winners here! (Lol.)
What I mean is, I’m going to spend the next few days thinking up some of the most simple, inclusive prompts as possible. These prompts are for everybody. Not exclusive. No matter your race, ethnicity, gender, beliefs, religious category, social class- can I ask you what your perfect coffee cup tastes like? Or if you have a dog bed? Or what is the state of your backyard? Or do you watch the sunsets?
These are some of the prompts I mean to give out, spoiler alert. I’m going to be calling them the Everyone Prompts (as is the name of this article).
The rules are basic, as basic as I can make them with my current state.
1) Write honestly. You don’t have to write your every thought, of course- that can end up as a jumbled mess. But don’t make up something because you think other people will like you better for it. This rule might sound a bit silly, but I think it’s necessary.
2) If, out of the kindness of your heart, you could do this at least for my sake: don’t use so much language that it’s impossible to read. Me, as in someone my age, would not like to read nor condone foul language at this current time, so please be kind to me and don’t be a sailor with your words <3
3) This is not really a rule but it’s important to mention: this is not a competition! Don’t feel like you have to tussle your way to victory because, well, sadly there is no victory. If you’re looking for a golden #1 medal, you may have come to the wrong place. The point of this is…
✨COMMUNITY✨
The point is not to win or lose or write better than that other person over there. The point is, honestly, not even to impress the Vocal team (although that would be nice if we could blow their socks out of the water or… however you say that). The point is to connect with each other and learn each other’s stories. Not the fictional stories, although we all love those. The real stories. The shower-in-the-morning stories. The I-don’t-like-my-9-to-5 stories. The my-dog-has-aching-hips stories. The stories that we can relate to.
And if you don’t have a dog, that’s fine.
And if you don’t like coffee, that’s fine.
And if you don’t have a backyard, that’s fine.
It’s all just for fun. For connection! For community!
I’ll give out the prompts one at a time in one article each, followed by maybe my own story to kickstart things, and then you (as in “all of you” or “just you”) can either comment your answer or comment a link to the article that you wrote for your answer.
Truth be told, I just want this to be fun. And I think it will be. Simple prompts for simple people, eh?
:)
School is starting literally tomorrow, so let’s say… if things get started, I’ll try to do one of these prompts every Wednesday.
Sounds good?
Good.
<3
*that face when you read back what you wrote after thinking it was so cool and realize it actually sucks 😭*
relatable much?
