Dearly Departed
Sandra, known as Sandy to her family, was one of the lucky ones. Although she was taken too soon, she lived her life to the fullest. She had a beautiful, fun-filled childhood in a family that always made her feel loved, appreciated, and full. Her parents, Mike and Angela, showed her from a young age the meaning of true love. Mike taught her that she could be and do anything that she wanted. He taught her how to be an independent thinker, gave her a love of music, and taught her to not be afraid to try new things. Angela showed her that life is more fun if you occasionally get into mischief. She taught her daughter to see the best in people, gave her a love of books and reading, and instilled her with the ethic to always leave a place better than you found it. Both her parents gave her a deep appreciation of nature, which she carried with her in every aspect of her life. Sandra’s older brother, Kyle, was her constant companion in the early years, and was her very best friend throughout her life. Kyle always made his sister laugh harder than anyone else could, taught her (often by example) how to stay out of trouble, showed her the importance of keeping an open mind, and how not to take life too seriously.

On New Year's eve I made a promise to myself that this year I would stop being such a people pleaser. Yet, here I was. In the passenger seat of Lacey Clark's brand new, red, 2019 Volkswagen Beetle; on my way to a party I didn't have the slightest interest in attending in the first place. But, Lacey has been my best friend since kindergarten. I couldn't bare the disappointed look on her face when I tried to tell her I had absolutely zero interest in attending some dumbass party because she was obsessed with catching the eyes of Tyler Wright, the most sought after boy in all of Silverwood High School. I was always such a sucker for puppy dog eyes.

When I first posted to Vocal, it was after my sons suicide. Due to nasty feedback on other writing platforms, I happened to find my way here. I am so grateful for the opportunity Vocal has given me to express my thoughts here. After that first post it took 4 years before I would write again. My first story was strictly my way of venting all the emotions I had from his death. I then found no reason to write again. Although I have been writing since I was 14, I had no inspiration, no need to express. Until I met this man. A lot of my stories and poems are to him, for him, and about him. He gave me purpose.
