humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
A Moment in Time
When you take a moment, What are you doing? Are you planning? Suggesting? Being a role model? Contemplating? Do you stop to hear a fine tune? Can you smell a fine tune? Are you Loony Tunes? Do you notice an unusual smell? Are you unusual? Do your senses take your breathe away? When you take a moment, do you notice the simple things? Are you farfetched? Simple? Demanding? Anal? Nice? Mean? Incredible? Employable? When you take a moment are your deeds noticeable? Do you know what a deed is? Did your mother leave you a last wish involving a Deed? Did your father? What is your wish? Your desire? Your innermost fear? What are your strengths? Weaknesses? What compels you? When you take a moment, what does it mean to you?

A Proper Introduction
My name is Astella Luna Alaurora, many call me Stella. I was born and raised in Texas under my birth name. My Sophomore year of high school (2012), my mom and I decided to pack up everything and leave the toxic environment we were living in to start anew. Although it was a rough start after living many years in that kind of environment, I graduated high school and got my associates degree at the community college here where I live. Growing up, I always found myself drawn to the things that society didn't understand. I never quite fit in a labeled box like they wanted me to. Since a young age I have trusted my intuition and have created things with my creative talents, mostly my writing and artwork. To me, writing and art was a form of manifesting what I wanted in life; and while I didn't always get what I wanted, the universe made up for it with magickal things. Like showing me that I am worthy of so much more than what I was told growing up. Sometimes we can't see what's right in front of us. We spend so much time looking externally for validation of our worth that we forget that it's internal and not in need of validation.

False Teeth and Bifocals
All that is left are false teeth and bifocals. When Luke opens the wall locker, he sees also a broken tea set. One of his duties in the assisted living community is the room turnover after the body is removed. This entails the packing of the late resident’s items, a thorough cleaning, and restoration to its original set up. Notifying the family, calling the medics, removing the body, are all tasks for other job titles.

Struggle
Once upon a time, there was this small town girl named Elizabeth. Elizabeth was a very outgoing woman who dreamed of becoming an inked magazine model. Growing up, Elizabeth did not come from money. She always had a crazy imagination. Elizabeth struggled her Whole life trying to always make ends meet. At the age of 16, Elizabeth found out that she was pregnant, one thing led to another and the father wanted no part of her or her daughters life. Elizabeth dropped out of school, worked multiple jobs just to make ends meet. It was like she could never catch a break. Bill after bill, having to be both mom and dad for her child, it was hard and sometimes very overwhelming. Every night Elizabeth dreamed of having a rich uncle that she knew nothing of and she dreamed that one day how cool it would be if he left his fortune to her. As Elizabeth grew older, the stress became very serious to her health. She would cry herself to sleep at night because she never though she’d ever be good enough for anyone, and she felt like she was failing her daughter. Times were hard and she was losing hope and faith. Elizabeth had finally hit rock bottom, begging for a saving grace in hopes that would day, she could eventually have what she always dreamed of having, to better herself, her future, and her child’s future. On December 9,2018 Elizabeth received an unexpected phone call from a number in California.

The Cadmus
When she was 55, my Nanna Lynn became the oldest person in the world. Every year on her birthday, a reporter and camera crew from Unified State TV would come into our living room to film their annual self-aggrandizing interview and ask the same old predictable questions.

The Black Book
Will opened his eyes squinting into bright sunlight, his head pounding. He felt his forehead and sure enough, a large bump was forming just over his right eye. He sat up carefully and looked at his watch, surprised to see it was still there. Of course, it wasn't a very expensive watch and he only wore it out of habit. He still found it easier than having to pull his cell phone out of his pocket to check the time. Only minutes had passed since the attack and there was no crowd of anxious on-lookers hovering over him.

When Meetings Go Bad
When you’ve sat through hundreds, if not thousands, of difficult and emotional meetings, you start to see patterns in ways that meetings can turn sour and be unproductive. The other day, someone asked me my thoughts on the top reasons meetings go south. When I started making the list, I went back through my many years in education. I remembered in vivid detail some of the moments I knew we were headed in the wrong direction and down the proverbial “rabbit hole”. Meetings, whether they are about IEPs or behavior plans, or professional collaboration, get emotional when people are discussing things like children. Combine that with professional or parenting self-esteem and you have a perfect storm brewing. Therefore, my list and examples show how an already brewing storm can become a full-blown disaster in a matter of seconds.

The Knock
Most of my life i've lived the same day over and over. In my adult years although things changed tremendously I fell into another routine lifestyle. I work and relax. In more detail every morning I wake up at 5am to shower, brush my teeth, dress myself, make my bed, feed my dog, Shiloh, grab my coat, briefcase, wallet, keys, phone and head out the door for breakfast. I work from home and have been for the last six years, for this very reason I try to get out of the house a few times a day. I walk to Starbucks and order my favorite which is a Latte Macchiato and Sausage, Cheddar and Egg Breakfast Sandwich. I sit at the high table alone by the window when it is available, pull my tablet from my briefcase and scroll through social media while eating breakfast.
