humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
"Call me if you need anything" is a hollow phrase
For my entire life when people have been divorced, hospitalized, or after funerals, I have heard at least one person say "If there's anything I can do just let me know," or "Call me if you need anything." Decades ago I heard a pastor tell the congregation to stop using these phrases. He said that telling someone to call you, puts the burden on the person who is in need and makes them feel like they have to beg for assistance.

The Paths We Take
As we were all told more and more last year to stay in, I went out. Over the past year I have found solace in the most basic and ancient of human activities. I work at a creative job, writing and directing commercials and web videos, I take acting classes, and write as many personal projects as I can in the time that I have. Because of all this, I welcome any activity that gets me out of my head and into my senses, moving my body and observing the natural world. Over these last twelve months, I have developed a formidable walking habit. I take walking breaks like smoke breaks now. At my job, I’ll slip out for a fifteen minute jaunt down to the river after lunch, or I might even stop the car for a stroll through the park in my neighborhood on the way home.

Fighting depression
The year was 2006 and I was in grade seven. I was a passionate Sports person and sports was my life. I used to devote huge portion of my life to active sports. Then sports career came crashing down when I met with an accident. I had to quit sports completely. It was one of the most frustrating times. I needed a hobby desperately. My elder sister was in art crafts. I hated my sister and I hated arts and crafts. Frustration compelled me to take my sister's brush and I gradually developed a liking for arts and crafts. I wasn't so bad considering that I just started drawing.

Influence
Since childhood, creative practices have been a natural necessity for me. Whether it be drawing, painting, collages, or weaving dandelions together in the summer months, my hands have always had the need to be busy. To put it in fewer words, creating has always been a comfort to my most essential being. It wasn’t until college where I was finally able to begin putting words and explanations to the passion I had towards these activities and why they created such a sense of calm and relief for me.

Talk that talk
My entire life I've leaned on entertainment as a way to cope with life. I could always zone out listening to music, watching movies or television and especially playing video games. I also loved to talk about it. I loved to tell people about the movie that I saw or the newest video game I've played.

Knitting for Mental Health
Knitting is what I like to call a "productive hobby." You do something enjoyable, calming, fun, and then you get something at the end of it. It's also a bit old-fashioned that most people know about, and typically one or more of their grandparents knitted or crocheted.
