For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
The Story of the Girl in the Hairdressers
I was getting my hair cut recently and struck up a conversation with the girl washing my hair. She was a singer and dancer but her drama school application got rejected so she decided to learn hairdressing as a side-career until she had enough money to leave and try dancing once more.

Moments Frozen in Time
A wise man once wrote that "To be in time means to change." Change is inevitable. It's a part of life and all that. Just because change constantly happens doesn't make it easy to experience. And every now and then there are moments that remind us that the soul longs for the place beyond time.

My Problem.
My problem is I hear what you are saying, but I see how you are moving. The average person can say loads of beautiful words, but I am looking at how you move with those words. You can not just say things and then expect me to go along with what you say when your actions do not align with your words.

A Sunday Night
I have long since pulled up to Loblolly's and gotten my double scoop of honey lavender. An old couple came in just behind me with their dog. It was one of those short poodles, the small ones. I caught her looking at me as I was checking out as if to say, "Who are you?" The way a child does.

Dear Future Leaders,
Dear Future Leaders, It is time for leadership to change drastically, and it is on the next generation of leaders to make the change. People are leaving their jobs in unprecedented numbers. The craziest part is that they are doing it voluntarily. Why? The obvious answer is that they are unhappy with their careers. But how could literally millions of people be so unhappy with their jobs that they would take the terrifying leap into a new career, or even into voluntary unemployment?

The Unpaved Path to Happiness
The forest was restless. A chill went down her spine by the thought of having to go pee outside. It must have been nearing dawn but clouds were covering the half moon, so she couldn't tell. Her feet were freezing and she hated herself for not having put the last log on the fire last night. Now she would have to get out of her warm bed into a cold room, and out into an even colder November night to use the latrine.

The Inner me
My favorite time is just in the moments before waking. There, we hover, in limbo. There is no worry, no pain, no fear, no regret, no guilt...just utter peace. in the moments following is my most dreaded time. Just as the dawn slowly breaks and the world hoes from a blanket of darness to utter light, so too my conceousness goes from peace to one of utter dread. At first the warmth of sleep and the bliss of oblivian is prelaces with the realization of what awits me, what sleep has given me a brief repreive from. The demon. Some have a demon that lives just outside their reach, that they, if they move swift enough, can outrun. But mine lives within me. Deep inside, burried, in a cassem no one can reach. There it awaits. I had thought it gone, dead, for some time now as tihad become so quiet, so still. Not even a rumble, a soft growl, to let me know it was still there. Still waiting, still angry.

Guns aren't Toys and Playin' Gangster isn't Cool
A few nights ago, it ended up being pretty dramatic around my apartment building, and I am absolutely livid about it. At about 1 in the morning, I woke to the sounds of gun shots very close by. Sure enough, at the bar right across the street there was a shooting. I heard 3 loud shots, but apparently there were up to 10. Then, the sirens started and the street out front was taken over by police. I went out to see what was happening, like pretty much everyone else in the building. We saw as the shooter was arrested and bundled into a cop car. I must say, I was impressed by how quickly the police got there and how fast they were able to get the shooter into custody. Good work Winnipeg Police Service.

Upon the Occasion You Get Your Ass Beat
This is a big subject. If you maintain a violent lifestyle, you will get your ass beat from time to time, I don’t give a fuck who you are. You might be the lovechild of Bruce Lee and the Hulk if they could have kids together, but people maneuver and perhaps 3 or 4 guys will kick your ass, or maybe there will be weapons involved, or maybe you are just outclassed by a better fighter, but if you are a violent person you will get your ass kicked from time to time. Life is not a comic book.
