Escape from family execution
For decades I had denied who I was, a fear had been ingrained in me since childhood, that should anyone Chinese come looking for me, I should flee. This sadly, is not uncommon. Normally, most second generation of any Chinese are unaware of their parents struggle to escape their homeland and integrate into a foreign country. But for me that was not afforded. For me, news of my Princess grandmothers assassination had made it not only to newspapers, but listed all family members, even those born outside of the country. And these clippings found their way to my mother enclosed with death threats - that if she were to try to claim any part of her heritage, my mother and our family would also be assasinated.

Chasing my Dream
When I was a little girl I loved watching movies and TV shows such as Drake & Josh, ICarly, Zoey 101,and Victorious. I always admired the actors and the actress on the set. I always dreamed of becoming an actress. I would take drama clubs and theater at school. I always dreamed of becoming amazing tv star in shows and movies, the fans cheering while I'm riding in the limousine with my manager.

On the left cheek, closest to the mouth, it says “kill the fourth child” and this is where my modern family began. Our family had retained all the traditions of nobility, except one. The Princess had unbound feet among other nobles. My mother recalls seeing all the nobles with tiny bound feet, and tiny shuffle steps as that was revered “ladylike” and beautiful somehow.

On loss, fear, teeth, and flowers
Three months after Raymond died, I dreamt for the first time of my teeth falling out. I cupped my hands together, and stared at the pile of silver-capped teeth. They had fallen en masse from my mouth and, as is often the case in dreams, that somehow seemed normal.

Afraid of the Darkness
I hate the dark. It terrifies me. I’ve always hated the dark. I grew up in the countryside so at night it was always the darkest it could of been! I mean there were no lights on in the distance to put your mind at ease of the fear of becoming hurt with your own thoughts.
