friendship
C.S Lewis got it right: friendship is born when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one!"
Skirt and Scarf
It was 2010 and it felt like the world was waiting for me, like it was waiting for me to delve in. It was bitterly cold at 8am on a Monday morning in September when I walked into my first period, calculus. My eyes were shifting in search of allies to cushion the feeling of being alone in this new quest. I knew I needed connections to be successful. After all, I was walking into my first class in college, and I was the first person in my family to do so. I was confident, curious, and ready to venture into uncharted territories with the new people around me but also hesitant of the environment.

My Dixie Dream
It was a dream from the start. We came together to make magic...calling ourselves The Dixie Girls. I was Vernadette. There was Dinah, Lexie, Jerrie Neal and Sheree. In 2 hours we aged 40 years, laughed, fought, ate buttermilk biscuits and butter and honey, and cried...together.

the farce
Bzz. Bzz. Bzz. My alarm goes off and I jerk awake, groping in the dark for my phone. I hit snooze and sit up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and grasping at the fragments of the dream I’d just woken up from, remembering it had been unusually pleasant. I try unsuccessfully to yawn off the pasty morning bitterness in my mouth as I run my tongue over my teeth. 7:30. It feels way earlier and I’m less than excited to actually get up. I have things I have to do but I’m definitely not about this life. And in all honesty I’m kind of struggling just to live at all.

Once best friends now strangers.
@muzammilgooljar When you sit in the eerie silence, alone in your room, your pillows are now drowned in your own tears. Your mind is now your enemy, it makes you look back at all the memories you had together; laughs shared, crazy moments that wrote the story of friendship, things that were done out of foolishness, unexpected outings, food that was shared or even taken without permission. You will now remember all the memories you have created together with your best friend, from dancing together and spoken out the fears you have, the calming hands of your best friend when you were through harsh times, you will now remember all the small details that were part and parcel in your relationship. No matter how you felt, when you were depressed and lost among people who would try to pin you down, your best friend were there with opening arms and soothing words. Your best friend will look after you like a sister patting her little brother's hairs before going to sleep.

Painkillers
Painkillers From compared to all us, Khadijah is the least bothered. One could say indifferent, and from the looks of it..joyous. She drives in cruise mode, one hand stirring the direction of the car and the other holding yet another cigarette (she lit awhile making a left turn.) Tanya (sits uptop Sky's lap) as Niecey and I sit smushed alongside each door. Lala is unusually mute as she changes stations from off the radio. Finally she stops on a station playing "Massive Attack" by Nicki Minaj. I hear Khadijah rap, "Pop a bottle just to get my head right, tell a doctor go and get my meds right, Monster, you know it wouldn't be proper, If we didn't return with a big rocket launcher, Massive Attack, mmn massive attack."

A True Friend
In reality finding a true friend and even trying to figure out what makes a true friend, is undeniably hard. In life many people struggle to keep a friend and even meet new friends, not realising that there are a few characteristics that needs to be visible to you, in people to know they or that one person is the definition of a true friend. However, this is not just some random person who is just writing this piece for the fun of it, i'm someone writing this piece who had to deal with this kind of thing in the past, I had to deal with meeting friends that I though were my absolute true friend and finding out the hard way that you can't just call someone your 'true' friend without really getting to know them, because I realised that the word 'friend' gets thrown around a whole lot, not even realising that, that one simple, yet dangerous word can bring you loneliness and hurt, and honestly that's how I felt when I lost my so called friends that I treasured so much, not realising that I've been looking at it all wrong it's not what you see in a person that makes them a true friend it's what is buried deep within themselves and their characteristics that makes that one person a true friend. And because of what has happened to me in the past I have written this piece for people to understand what it is that makes a true friend, a true friend.
