friendship
C.S Lewis got it right: friendship is born when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one!"
Butterscotch
BUTTERSCOTCH Alex Munoz was intrigued when he learned the first stop was a club in the meatpacking district, a place called Shine. At this hour, the line of people waiting behind the rope to get in was short. Isabelle asked him to wait for her. To his surprise, she spoke one word to the bouncer at the door, and he let her in. She emerged a moment later and got back in the cab.

The Drawing of Haniya
It was 7:35 and gray, an unsettling gray, a gray deprived of normal sunshine and the quiet ebullience of her gentle friend. She'd not had a Friday morning in two years when he wasn't there, when he didn't walk through the steel and glass doors of the diner somewhere between 6:55 and 7:00. He sat at the furthest booth the first time she poured his coffee and took his order, and every Friday for the last two years he would sit at the same booth in the back, cheerfully and quietly waiting to greet her.

"A thug changes; and love changes..."
13FEB2021; 2245, SAT The titles of this 54th piece by me were taxed from the end of the last verse of the living legend, NaS's highly favored initial cut, "The Message", on his classic sophomore album, It Was Written ('96). I figured what better way to begin a post about the BFF I had since well before I was assigned to Echo 2/54 INF (Infantry); and for about a decade or so afterwards?

My Real Life Peach Creek Estates
When you're a kid and you can't drive and nearly every important place in your life is within a three mile radius of one another, your perspective of the world is very small. That's how the shows I watched as a kid were able to convince me that big elaborate adventures were happening in unreasonably small spaces, like the backyard in The Backyardigans or the sandbox in the Rugrats or my personal favorite, Peach Creek Estates in Ed, Edd, n Eddy.

Leather-Bound Magic
I had been dreading this trip to the beach. I tried to talk my friends into going to the mountains where we could ski and not be bothered by as many people, but I guess they find some appeal in getting sand in places where sand shouldn't be while being surrounded by masses of sweaty, noisy, and aggravating people. Uncertain of why I agreed to come, I chose to walk along the beach and collect shells instead of swimming like my friends were. Bad enough that I got looks when I was fully clothed, I didn't need to be gawked at in my bathing suit by men who clearly had nothing better to do than irritate me.

Dear Bestfriend
You're the fire to my flame, and the soul to my spirit. Like the peanut butter to my jelly, we're inseparable. You never fail to bring a smile on my face, even if it's just a goofy story of something stupid you've done. You never fail to make me feel better when I cry or even have a bad depression moment.
