In the rain
It’s funny how we never notice the little things about a person unless we pay close attention. Little things that can shape and change your life in ways you would never imagine when it comes to the choices that you make. My little thing is that I hate the rain, I always have, ever since I was a child. My mom says I would cry as a baby, every time I would get wet. My earliest memory is being three years old wearing a bright orange raincoat, I watched as the raindrops formed on our front window and pouted my lip in disgust.

The Reading Hound
Fire was all around him. Every door was covered in liquid flame. Jack, Tyler's Basset hound, had escaped through a hole in a broken-down back door. Tyler remained trapped because of his frustratingly large human form. There was nothing he wouldn't give to be his dog right now.

Not a Believer, But . . .
For most of my life, I've thought of astrology as an overly complicated system of mumbo-jumbo for people who had so little confidence in themselves that they wanted some mysterious cosmic force to dictate everything from their everyday decisions to their ultimate destinies. But because people asked about my zodiac sign from time to time, I looked it up and learned that my mid-July birthday puts me squarely in the Cancer sign.

For Someone Who Needs Relief
I want to fall to my knees and sob at the bus stop. I want to curl up in my duvet coat on the steps of the glittering hotel across the street, in the sun, and sleep. The only sun I've seen for days has been from the inside of one of my jobs. Weakly piercing the heavy grey clouds. I ache to just turn and run down to the beach and hurl myself into the rocky sand. I want to fill myself with sunlight, I want to let all the frustration and pain and anger tear itself free from my throat and I want to replace it with this warmth and light that has been a rarity for months.

My Storybook
Most people never believe me when I tell them, but my name is Andromeda, and I have some of the craziest things happen in my life. People tell me thingsthey would never tell another living soul and I find some amazing things. This is such a story. A story of something crazy, something so unbelievable you would think that I made it up.

The Voices
The Voice Beyond the Bindings As the Saturday morning grew closer to its end, I watched a mass of fools funnel together, merging as one, waiting to be tricked by a single voice. As uncharacteristic as this was for me, I was also suckered in but had no desire to hear out this Voice. Dragging me by my limp, lifeless arm, a lifelong friend has decided that this was to be “awe-inspiring” and “what I needed”. My sighs were waved aside by the excited chatter of this overbearing optimist as we continued our climb towards the top of the stone pillars of the convention center. My last glimpse of the dark gray sky was the last sight of the hope that I held onto for years.

The Mountain
“Here we are!” Eight-year-old Jake and Grandpa Jones pulled into the abandoned field. It was overgrown and unkempt, but it had been the meeting place of the grade-schooler and his seventy-year-old companion since Jake could remember. Every Sunday when Jake visited, he and Grandpa had driven here. The two would sit in Grandpa’s blue sedan discussing Jake’s week. Jake’s family hadn’t much money, but somehow Grandpa always found enough to get the two food from a local restaurant. It was what Jake and Grandpa looked forward to at the end of the week. Today wasn’t different. The two were munching on a hamburger as they talked.

Operation: Dim Pages
Simeon hated Tuesdays. He especially hated late Tuesday afternoons. Any other day of the week was blissful, and bright. It bothered him observing everyone living typical daily routines, seemingly unbothered by the fact that it was, in fact, Tuesday. Simeon’s day was unaffected by what day of the week it was; it didn’t matter. The only thing on his mind was executing his next step in his operation with his workmate Milo. He knew today would be a success. The operation was dependent only on the contents of the ‘dim pages,’ the collection of data Milo gathered, and Simeon analyzed. Once Milo arrived, they began on foot to station one. There weren't any heavy objects, nothing of value was inside this one. They had a hunch telling them to go further inside anyway, for research purposes. They had enough time and decided to take advantage of an easy entry and finding. Wherever they wanted to go they went. It could be risky sometimes, but the two pals had a vision that had to be met by any means necessary. Milo loved to explore each station he discovered. Before groundwork, when he was carefully locating the data for each station, he so anticipated arriving and beholding the magnificence of his findings. He never seemed to be disappointed. Simeon, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to move on to the next assigned location. He enjoyed his time discovering with Milo, they both shared the same excitement for their work. So, he always stayed for as long as Milo pleased. Nothing on earth would allow Simeon to rush because he too, found each finding magnificent. Station two was everything Simeon wanted. By the contents of dimpages, he saw clearly how abundant this station would prove to be for their operation. He was often right about his hunches, and he was certain about this one, he couldn’t stop convincing Milo about it. He knew they’d see it for themselves. Outside, there were bright magenta flowers. Inside, the walls were glowing excellently. It was so beautiful, they didn’t want to look anymore. It was enough. But the house was so big, so mysterious. It seemed so pristine as if nobody really lived inside. Dust covered everything on the walls, ceiling, floors, furniture, staircase, it was much. It was like spiderwebs covering the side of a bush or morning dew on a 100-acre field. It was beautiful. They knew this was a treasure. The atmosphere alone magnetized their desire for more. Milo clutched the dimpages, a black notebook with the tips of the pages tinted gold all around. Simeon smiled greatly. There was a photo of a handsome family on the wall covered in dust. They held their breath and they went up the staircase. They knew exactly where to go. Upstairs wasn't as dusty. The sun shining through the windows made the dust that filled the air dance. It was magical and warm. The string hung down the hallway from the ceiling. Milo rushed to pull it down and dust, of course, covered the two. All the way upstairs was cooler. The air felt crisp and made them feel alert. There were typical attic things in the attic. There were attic things such as a typical box with typical contents. There was no lock, so Simeon opened the box easily. There was cash. There were wrist watches. The watches they kept and the money they’d spend. Simeon and Milo felt peace and happiness. This was the point of the operation after all. Successful findings was the goal. They gathered the data carefully and analyzed delicately. They didn't worry any day of the week. They needed everyone else to have a typical Tuesday so theirs could be an amazing Tuesday. It always was. Simeon still hated Tuesdays. Though his operation wouldn't be as successful if they knew Tuesdays were great, he still wished the others did. So that they too, could find typical attic things. Simeon loved that house.

Sunday Drive
There was nothing peculiar about the way the morning started that day. Felix awoke at the same time every day, to the same familiar alarm. He poured the same, boring cup of coffee as he perused the Classified section of the Sunday paper. Sure, there were more efficient ways of car shopping but Felix preferred a much simpler way of life. He took things one day at a time and felt like technology would only complicate things. He began to give up on his search when he came across a listing that caught his eye. The listing simply read,“CAR FOR SALE: ONE OWNER/MUST SEE” with only a phone number and address. Usually, this would not be an effective listing due to the lack of details but Felix was intrigued. This was a bit out of character for Felix as he normally would require more information, but he figured this car could not in any worse condition than the piece of junk he was currently driving. He felt his heart racing a bit faster as he found himself dialing the number with no idea what to expect! The phone continued to ring long enough to realize no one was going to answer and they obviously did not want anyone to leave a message. The address listed was only about 20 minutes away so he decided to take a little road trip to discover if the vehicle was indeed a “must see”. After a good 5 minutes, his car finally started only further solidifying the notion that he definitely needed to find some other form of transportation soon! He wasn’t necessarily expecting to meet the seller because they did not answer their phone but he figured he could at least catch a glimpse of his potential purchase. As he neared his destination, Felix wondered why he had never noticed a car for sale because this address was nearly the halfway point on his daily commute to and from work. He soon realized it was because the car was not displayed near the road but only a nondescript sign that read “CAR FOR SALE” with an arrow pointing toward the house. He slowly passed by without stopping but it did not seem like anyone was home. He found the first spot to turn around and decided to give it one more pass by. As he was heading back, he could spot the nose of a vehicle peeking out from behind an old barn and decided to turn down the driveway. Felix did not feel completely comfortable turning into someone else’s property but figured they wouldn’t post a sign if they did not want people looking. After a few moments of reflection, Felix began to inch his way down the drive only to have his car sputter slowly before stalling completely. He popped the hood and attempted to start it once but he knew his car very well… it was going to need a few minutes of rest before trying again. He figured he might as well walk the rest of the way to see the car while he waited. He gave the property one more look around for any signs of life but still did not see anyone other than a few seemingly stray cats. As he approached the vehicle, he could finally see that it was indeed in very good shape as the shiny red paint glistened in the sun. There was no information posted anywhere on the vehicle but Felix could tell it was at least 10 years newer than the vehicle he was currently driving! It was all very promising but it didn’t seem like this was going to be in his price range. As he peered through the windows, Felix found himself daydreaming about the trips he could take in this vehicle without constantly worrying about being stranded on the side of the road! “Oh, what a beautiful thought”, he said to himself, quietly laughing. Before he could turn completely around, he noticed a shadow approaching from behind!
