Guardian
I rolled down the window and closed my eyes as the music from the radio filled the car. Eboni was on the side of me driving, singing her lungs out. It was two in the morning; we had just left the club and I was drunk. The wind caressed my face and messaged my hair as I slowly drained out the music. And also, Eboni, who struggled to hit every note. I was feeling amazing. All my worries and pain I had from losing my grandmother to Alzheimer's last year, were gone. I felt like I was flying in the sky somewhere. I felt like I was on top of the world. “Ohh Shit!!!” Eboni screamed out. Bringing me back to reality. I quickly opened my eyes in time to see lights from someone high beams coming right towards us. Eboni swiveled to get out the way, and then…. (EERRRRKKKK BOOOMMM!!!) Everything went black.

Selling Salvation
“The problem with the world is that no one is buying into salvation anymore, because no one knows anyone who has made it there.” Admittedly, it was a strange way to start a conversation. I suppose small talk wasn’t really my thing. I preferred to work my way backwards dredging through the deep topics first. Starting with the meaning of life, sharing a personal story, and slowly working my way to the weather.

Pomeranian Jazz
It was like a welcome stranger trespassing, bringing the enlightenment one seeks, although its presence was both familiar and unfamiliar. The sunlight, bent itself exquisitely, leaking through the tiny nano-crevices of closed blinds. Sunlight emerged onto Melody’s sleeping eyes and streamed down her face, warming. She much preferred West-facing windows, but a corner unit appeared during her market watch. She opted into a higher cost of living, in the sky. She never got around to ordering those black outs.

Nophone Notebook
Well, what on Earth could happen next, you think. Shakiya just gave everyone the dirty details of her most recent moron, nobody that ‘counted’ went to Mom’s Potluck, and every time you sit down to write the phone goes off as the group texts have it out. So. No phone! Notebook!

The Long Lost Café
She had been wanting to go on this trip for years, and now here she was - finally. The weight of her backpack pulled against her shoulders - her idea of packing light wasn’t exactly doing her small frame any favours, but her need to be prepared often outweighed her sensibility.

Grey
My life worked like a clock. Everyday, every week, every month went the exact same way, no surprises. I would just move from one task to another like the hands would move from hours to minutes. The mundanity of my life had gone on for so long I no longer questioned it. Its acceptance happened slowly, but surely I leaned into it, accepted it, and continued to live it until one day I wouldn't wake up at 4:43am.

What did I do to deserve this?
What did I do to deserve this? I come to work on time-ish. I answer emails in a timely manner. I finish projects efficiently on time. When people need help, I help. When people need assistance with a project, I assist. When someone is off, I pick up their duties on top of my ever growing daily job list. Because I am a team player, a respectable coworker. Even with all of that on my plate, it is still not enough, it is never enough. I am constantly feeling overlooked, underappreciated, overworked, and underpaid. I am exhausted, and today seems no different, or so I thought.
