9 Signs That You're a Powerful Woman
I've always wanted to be a stronger woman and to have greater self-assurance. To make sure that every decision I make is in my best interests and the interests of the people around me. As a result, I began to imagine what a strong woman would appear to everyone around me. We may not be flawless, but we can all possess some characteristics that make us strong. And I learned that we all have fantastic qualities that we don't take advantage of enough.

Undercover Racist
That’s what I call them, undercover racist. I was raised by a racist family. I was raised in a town where I never saw a black person until my mom sneakily showed me the movie Roots when I was young. That movie changed years of generational racism, because when you grow up in a racist environment that is all you know, which is what my parents experienced but my mom was ending that with me. Thank God my mother showed me that movie, I was engrossed, I felt it, I was so deeply moved by it so much so that I was sick over it. I was repulsed, angry and so despondently sad that at the age of 7 I learned yet again, humanity was “pain”. That is the greatest gift a mother could give their child, expanding their hearts and souls and seeing the injustices in the world. I’m not sure why she showed me that movie. It would be many years that I would be witness to the injustices that some people faced because of the color of their skin.

Ode to our fuckery.
I miss my friends. There was once a crew that mobbed around neighborhoods like fearless cats. Hiding from cop cars under dim streetlamps and playground slides. On a mission to go nowhere fast, we shared smokes and long-necked bottles. We laughed into the moon until we were demanded back to our beds. Dusty sidewalks cratered with our footprints, we grazed back and forth from park to parking lot. Days we were “going to the movies” we spent giggling with florescent vodka stuck to our smiles. “Can I get 10 bucks for the movies mom” “Yeah, okay. What are you guys seeing?” “It’s a scary one, you wouldn’t like it.”

Appeasing the Gods
If someone told you that the only way to stop a volcano from erupting was to throw a couple of virgins inside it, would you believe them? For most people, the answer is a solid no. Today we have enough knowledge of how volcanoes work to know that it does not matter what goes in the volcano. If a volcano is going to erupt there is nothing we can do to stop it from doing so. While we know this today, people living many years ago did not share this knowledge. For them, the threat of an eruption would have been devastating. In order to try and keep this from happening, they relied on the wisdom of their priests. So when the priest told them to throw a couple of virgins into the volcano, they did it without question.

Raamayana - Bala Kaanda
Sarga 2 Having heard the sentences spoken by Naarada, expert in forming sentences, Vaalmiki along with his disciples, felicitated him. Accepting those felicitations, Naarada, the Rushi of Devathaas took leave and went on his way. After about an hour after the departure of the Rushi of the Devathaas, the Muni (Vaalmiki, Muni means the one who practices silence) went to the banks of the river Thamasa (The river Thames which flows in England derives its names from this river) close to the river Ganga. Arriving at Thamasa river along with his disciples and looking at the slush-free waters, the Muni spoke, thus, “Bharadwaaja, this water is free of slush and is pleasant like the mind of a good gentleman. Son, keep the water vessel and give me the bathing cloth. I will bathe in these waters. You too take bath in the waters of the Thamasa river.” As the Mahatma Vaalmiki spoke thus, Bharadwaaja gave the bathing cloth, as directed, to the guru. Receiving the cloth from the hands of his disciple, the one with controlled organs, considered the vista with happiness.

How do you know Ray Bradbury?
Ray Bradbury is a well-known man but at the same time, not a well-known man. Have you heard of The Pedestrian? Probably not, but you have definitely heard his “most popular” book Fahrenheit 451. Contrary to popular belief he has written more than The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451, he has actually written and published 30 books, 600 short stories, and multiple; essays, poems, screenplay, and regular plays.
