Jessie J recently disclosed that she was diagnosed with ADHD and OCD three months ago.

On July 20, the 36-year-old “Price Tag” singer shared this health update on Instagram, noting that she began noticing symptoms of both disorders after welcoming her son Sky Safir in May 2023.

“When I told people, many responded with, ‘Yeah, we kind of figured that’ (which I’m sure some of you are thinking right now) 😂. Of course, I had some awareness, but having a baby has, let’s say, made it more apparent 🤪🥴. In a way, it was comforting because it made it feel less burdensome and frightening,” she wrote. “But there were moments when it made me feel like I couldn’t talk about it. Forget that. Here I am, discussing it and embracing it with the 🌎😂.”

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), as described by the Mayo Clinic, involves a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions). These obsessions and compulsions interfere with daily activities and cause significant distress.

“It’s strange when you’ve always known you felt things differently and finally, when you least expect it, someone explains why and you can’t ignore it. ADHD is so varied, it’s like a puzzle fitting your version together. That’s been my experience,” Jessie, whose full name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, explained. “It’s about understanding ways to cope, excel, and grow with it. Honestly, I feel like it’s a superpower as long as you have the right perspective, support, and people around you to navigate it with you.”

The “Bang Bang” singer mentioned that her diagnoses have prompted her to reassess every aspect of her life, including her work, how she deals with things, how she loves, and her relationships.

“It has empowered me and, at times, overwhelmed me,” she admitted. “One thing social media has given me is the chance to connect, relate, and heal with kind strangers going through similar experiences. I’ve always been open about my journey in life.”

“I know many people are going through the same thing, and I’m reaching out to hold your hand because I need mine held too. I have no boundaries, lol; we know that,” she continued. “It has made me love myself even more. I’m hugging my 11-year-old self, who would clean her sneakers with a toothbrush when she was stressed and who still lives with a thousand lists to keep life from crumbling 😂.”

“Here’s to getting to know yourself better through life and loving yourself fully,” Jessie concluded. “Nothing in life defines us, but it helps us grow and become a more complete version of ourselves. 🥂🫂🫶”
