One more step and you're ahead of 90% of the competition
Some time ago, I took the subway to a city for training, and the client sent a young teaching assistant to receive me.
As soon as the train stopped, I received a phone call and the teaching assistant told me that there were two exits, A and B, at the subway station and that she would wait for me at exit A because it was closer to me.
When I got out of the station, I met people, exchanged pleasantries, and asked her, "I see that there are people coming off this high speed train from Exit A and Exit B. How do you know that I am closer to Exit A?"
She said, "Didn't you send me a photo of your ticket? I saw that you are car 2, the head of the train, so the nearest elevator to you is Exit A." When I thought about it, it was true that the middle of the train was right in the middle of the station, and the head and tail corresponded to the A and B exits respectively.
The girl also organized the whole training trip and even prepared a portable iron for me. She knew that the hotel I stayed in did not have ironing service, and as a lecturer, when you appear on stage, your clothes must be stretched and tidy. These are all small things, but of all the assistant instructors I've had contact with, this one was the most satisfying. She was neither enthusiastic nor flattering, but simply made the whole process smooth in a silent way, so that everything would go smoothly.
This is a kind of ability, seemingly ordinary, but actually one in a hundred. That girl, if you have a good professional background, and then have this ability, in time, nine out of ten will be in the workplace mixed well. Because she has a lot of good people in common: things more than one layer of thought, live more than one step.
When I was a salesman, one of my jobs was to approve the qualifications of customers. Every time my business approval came down, it took two to three weeks, while another salesman just two to three days. I had the cheek to ask the other guy for advice, and the buddy said, "You have to save someone else's mind to do that. Do you know what the approval system is like?" I shook my head.
He went on to say, "I will collect all the customer information, and then copy a list according to the format of the system of approval, and they just need to record what is on my list. Unlike your list, you have to find the information in so many materials, and even have to call to verify, trouble ah. They must have recorded my list first."
You see this buddy, more than others to do a step, but save time and energy, everywhere to seize the first opportunity.
It's not that people don't know this, but it's so energy consuming that anyone is inevitably a little inert. However, you turn around and think about it, because we all have inertia, you think a little more for others, more to do a step, it is more valuable. So, think deeply about everything, so that the thinking in the twists and turns of a bend; work more than one step, so that the action in the distance to land a foot.
