My Friend In The Night Sky
A tribute to the light which shines above our heads

Everyone has someone they can turn to in this life, whether it is their parents, siblings, close neighbors, or even fellow classmates. However, for me there will always be one I hold close to to my heart who will never leave my side, the Moon. Since as far back as I can remember, I have been at peace whenever I look up and can see the moon each night. It is always there, watching us from its perch up high in the sky. The moon never mocks anyone, its quiet, peaceful, and great to speak to when you need to get something off your chest.
The first time I turned to the moon was probably when I first moved from the family home I had only known for the first few years of my life. It was a quaint little duplex that was just big enough for a small family to start out in. However, our family was growing and we needed more space to expand our horizons, so the family decided we needed to move to a bigger house. I was not the most social of people as a kid with most people not really wanted to spend the time to get to know me. So when the time came to say goodbye to our home, I had no one to say goodbye to except for the moon above my head. It was at the moment that I realized something: the moon could be my friend whenever I needed him. Being a young child at the time I didn't understand that the moon wasn't actually alive and couldn't here me thanking it, but at the time it helped me calm down and accept the newest change happening in my life.
As years went by, changes kept happening. I eventually grew older and I started to become aware of many things in life. The chances for me to become social and make friends never really came and I eventually became somewhat of a loner. But the moon still shined above my head every night and I would talk to it about my worries and goals in life. Once I grew old enough to live on my own, I left the sanctuary of my families home and struck out to find a place I could live in. My first home was only a small apartment worth 245 dollars a month with 3 roommates all with their own rooms but it had a quaint little kitchen and a tv we could share if we ever felt like watching something. I started college soon after and began to work towards a career involving wildlife and natural resources. To this day I am still not sure what I intend to do with that degree, but I know I will eventually figure that out.
Even now I am still working towards that degree, but as I have growth even older it is still a challenge for me to speak out to people and try to become a part of their circles. I don't fret however, as I still have the moon to talk to and it has never left my world since my first time having a conversation with it. Many would think that is strange, but to me it is natural. When one is lonely, they often turn to the things that calm them most easily, and for me it is still the moon each night. My hope is that I will eventually marry and start a family of my own, so that I may be able to pass the knowledge that I have gained and bring joy to them in any way I can. In my heart I know I may not make hardly any friends in my life, but the moon will still be there to guide me through the rough times and shine down during the good times as well. A friend is something I believe everyone needs in this life. Now that friend may not be able to make funny faces and have a conversation with you, but having something there that helps keep you on your feet is something worth having with you always.
