My 5 Favourite Things About Vocal
Reaching 100K Reads

I started writing on Vocal purely because I had nobody to talk to and the people in my life I had to talk to didn't want to talk about books or films with me. Now that I have reached 100'000 reads on Vocal, I realise that there are people out there who actually like to read my writing and take in what I have been saying. At the moment, I have quite a bit planned for the next year on Vocal and I have even got some more stuff planned for the next week or so.
People have often asked me, “Would you write for Vocal if there was no system in which you would get paid per click?” My answer is always yes. Regardless of the payments, I would still want to share my reviews with everyone. I was actually writing reviews on another site before but switched to Vocal when I decided that the interface on this site was a lot easier to use than the other one. There are so many aspects about this site that I love that I really do not care about money. I just want people to enjoy some books, watch some films, read some articles and have a good time.
And now, I would like to explore this milestone of reaching 100'000 reads on Vocal by going through my five favourite things about this site.
They are in no particular order...
My 5 Favourite Things About Vocal
1) The Content
Unlike places like Buzzfeed, Vocal's content is never clickbait stuff. Most of the writing on Vocal is well written, interesting and it has passion in it. You can tell by the way a lot of the work is written on this site, the person writing the article actually cares about it. The content is well curated, organised and easy to find. There is so much different content on here, I have often found myself just browsing through random articles I never would have read if they had a clickbait title.
2) The People
I have met a lot of new people thanks to Vocal. I have made new friends, people have read more of my articles and I have read more of theirs. The people I have met through Vocal are some lovely writers who are there, like myself, to boost others and get them into writing as well. It has been an incredible journey and as of today, I am still meeting new people on Instagram and Twitter etc. that have Vocal accounts and I subscribe where I can to support them and read their work.
3) The Platform
The platform is constantly updating and changing, offering new categories and new opportunities to get involved with different things that peak your interest. There are these really cool competitions on in which you can win money and prizes, have your story read by thousands of other people and be judged by some fairly famous companies. One thing I have always loved about Vocal is that they are always trying to improve the experience for their writers and that the platform, being so simple to use, means that you get to spend more time perfecting your writing rather than clicking through things. The user experience is fantastic.
4) The Top Stories
I have been in the Top Stories section quite a few times in my day and not only does it generate views, but I love reading other Top Stories as well. The Top Stories are never all part of the same thing, there is everything from literature to social justice, to beauty to meditation and art, sports etc. the list goes on. It is like Vocal are trying to include everyone in the ‘Top Stories’ experience. I for one, am glad that I get to see so many new and fascinating topics on the ‘Top Stories’ page, or else I would have never have discovered so many great articles and users that I read now.
5) Improving Writing
One thing that has happened over the course of my time on Vocal is that my writing has become far less ‘academic’ and more ‘interpersonal’. As a M.A holder, I have often been told to write critically about everything and not to get too personal with the topic. What has happened with my time at Vocal though is that I have found that people gain a deeper connection with the work if they can see your passion and personality through it. I have now been able to adapt my work to my own personality and allowed myself to have more fun with my writing. I would like to thank Vocal for that since it probably would not have happened otherwise.
Conclusion
I love this site and there really is not any other way to say it. This site has brought me nothing but joy and I feel like I would have been a completely different person without it. It has really done me a lot of good to write about the things I abosolutely love.
