A lot has happened to me this year, both good and bad. And I want to evaluate all of it, month by month, to see what I want to do differently for 2024.
Well, almost all the months.
January
I lost my blog editing job. Not because I am a lousy editor but because of a lack of funds on their end. I’m still bummed about it.
One of my friends also had a mental break and was taken to a mental stabilization unit for a week.
What a great way to kick off 2023
February
I spent Valentine’s Day with my friend Sandra for Galentine’s Day when gal pals spend the day together. I liked the idea and knew she didn’t have plans, so we figured, why not?
It was actually pretty fun. We had lunch, wandered around town for a bit, and then hung out at my place until she went home.
April
I turned twenty-four, which was a good birthday. I got to go to a fancy steakhouse, after all.
I also started attending my Writing Prompts group. This has changed my creative writing and view of poetry and short-form fiction.
After reading many posts about the platform, I decided to create my own Substack.
June
My best friend Jade messaged me out of the blue.
It’d been about two years since we last saw or talked to each other. So, saying I was shocked when I got that messenger ping from her is an understatement.
She told me everything that had happened with her and asked if I wanted to go out for an early birthday celebration with her buddies and new boyfriend, who had been a friend of hers in high school.
I said yes, and it turned out to be a great night. And I even slept on the couch after we returned to her place at around three am. And since then, we’ve been talking and doing activities.
July
My grandma came over to our house to celebrate her birthday. And since my friends Jade and Sandra were invited, they met each other.
It was nice having two of my friends meet and hit it off. Most of my friends didn’t know each other, which was unpleasant.
I also created my Gumroad page and published my fiction book, The Deviants.
September
How I viewed my online writing changed. In order to attract the right audiences, I had to publish my content on the appropriate platforms.
So, I started reorganizing and evolving how I created my content.
I removed most of my fiction pieces from my Medium and all from my Substack, as they didn’t do well. And I aimed to focus on other content for those platforms.
And I created my Ko-Fi page for my short-form fiction and poetry pieces.
October
I went to Texas and gained much clarity about my life. Like what I want for myself within the next five years.
I also got my PS4 and have been morphing into a softcore gamer. It’s been fun, something I thought I’d never say about video games.
But here we are.
November
I returned from Texas and began delving into what I’ll need from my life within the next few years.
I also ended one of my friendships. While I feel a little bad about how I handled the situation, I’m relieved I don’t have to worry about that person anyone.
The relationship was becoming draining and counterproductive to the personal growth I’d worked hard for.
December
My friend Sandra moved to Oklahoma on the ninth. My mom is a bit depressed about it. And while I’m bummed she moved too, I plan on visiting her for a couple of weeks in either January or February 2024.
My parents went down to Marysville, WA, to celebrate my mom’s birthday. So I had the place to myself for a couple of days, spending them watching food shows, writing, gaming, and reorganizing the cubby above our furnace.
And our dishwasher decided to finally go on the fritz. Finally. I’m stunned it even lasted as long as it did. That thing is older than me.
We also celebrated Christmas. All of us were here and not working for the first time in a while. So that was nice.
What Are My Plans for 2024?
I have many ideas for what I want to accomplish in 2024, but these are the main goals:
Get a Sales Job in SaaS
This is the main goal for the first quarter of 2024. Two of my other goals heavily rely on me doing this one. And I need a primary source of income right now.
So, SaaS, it will be.
Pay Off Various Debts
They are not big, but they still weigh on my mind, and I want to pay them off before they become big.
Work on My Overall Health
While I’m not unhealthy, there’s room for improvement, especially with my muscular strength and digestive health. Feeling strong and light is the destination here.
Work on My Writing
I love writing and sharing my life with you, but I need to start making money, at least as a secondary form of income.
And not just the writing I do for you guys. I want to get more consistent ghostwriting and content-writing gigs.
Scale My Editing Business
While I get jobs and earn some money, I want to get more long-term clients and higher-earning projects.
To Finish
So yeah, that was my 2023. What a crazy year. At least I’m reassured that my life isn’t boring.
And hopefully, it will be my 2024.
