Life's Lessons from a Loving Father

Guiding Words to Light Your Pat

By Md. Solayman Hossain SabujPublished about a year ago 2 min read
A father's guiding hand and a child's trusting heart, walking together toward life's light and wisdom."

"Life is a journey filled with lessons, challenges, and moments of joy. As a father, I feel it’s my duty to share with you some of the wisdom I have gathered over the years—wisdom shaped by both triumphs and trials. These words come from my heart, not as rules, but as a guide to help you navigate the complexities of life. Remember, my dear child, these lessons are a gift of love, meant to light your path and remind you that you are never alone on your journey."

Dear Child,

I am writing this letter to you for three reasons

  1. Life, fate, and accidents are uncertain. No one knows how long they will live.
  2. I am your father. If I don’t tell you these things, no one else will.
  3. These words come from my own bitter experiences, and they might save you from unnecessary pain in life.

As you walk through life, try to remember these lessons:

  1. Appreciate kindness, but don't burden yourself with expectations.

Be grateful to those who are kind to you. But don’t harbor resentment toward those who aren’t. Remember, apart from your mother and me, no one is obligated to treat you fairly. Yet, you must be cautious—every person’s actions have a purpose. Someone may be your friend today, but that doesn’t guarantee they always will be. So, don’t be quick to consider anyone a true friend.

2. No one is indispensable.

Don’t break down if you lose something or someone. Relationships and attachments change over time. The day you understand that nothing in life is essential for survival, you’ll become mentally stronger.

3. Don’t take life for granted.

Life is short. Every day is precious. If you don’t make proper use of time now, time will one day leave you behind. So, value your life and cherish every moment as early as you can.

4. Love is beautiful, but it’s not everlasting.

Love changes with time. Sometimes it’s sweet, and sometimes it fades. If someone leaves you, don’t lose yourself. Time will heal all your wounds. Don’t glorify love too much, and don’t sink into despair when it’s gone.

5. Education has no substitute for success.

Many successful people might not have formal education, but their hard work and determination are the keys to their achievements. Your knowledge is your weapon in life. If someone can rise from rags to riches, it’s because of their effort. So, always be prepared to learn and improve yourself.

6. Be self-reliant.

I don’t want to be your financial support in my old age, just as I don’t expect you to support me financially. Once you become an adult, the responsibility for your life is entirely yours. How you live—whether you ride public transport or your own limousine, whether you remain poor or become rich—will depend on your decisions.

7. Be kind to others, but expect less in return.

Keep your word, but don’t expect others to do the same. Treat people well, but don’t assume they’ll treat you the same way. The less you expect from others, the less pain you’ll endure.

8. Hard work is the key to prosperity.

Nothing comes free. I have bought lottery tickets for years but have never won anything. This has taught me that prosperity only comes through hard work.

9. Cherish the time you have.

It doesn’t matter how much time I spend with you. What matters is how we value the moments we share together. Turn every moment into a memory, because in the end, those memories will stay with you.

With endless love and blessings,

Your Father.
